Farmingdale NJ 2008 old factory location
So as I was standing next to the dirt pile that the location of the old Rogers factory was and it hit home how gone it is...long gone.
My friend Jesse Lejeune is a Farmingdale local resident and remembered his other local friend talking about going there as a kid to see the large racks that were set up for treating those calf heads. They are fixing the roads around that area right now so I started to snap some shots of the views around where the factory was to try and get a feel of the place where all those R lug drums came from. Nothing of the original structure is existing. The construction worker there told us he dug up some old drums when he came over to ask why we were taking pictures. Jesses eyes lit up and my heart skipped a beat. He then told further that where the dirt was piled up is where a gas station used to be and there was no oil in the drums...but man were they big. Jesse replied no, wrong type of drum.
Jesse pointing it out and Rogers 2008 crossroads corner:
left side field and front road:
corner lot of factory and across the road forest:
I know..a little strange but I've been told that before. So here are the shots of the surrounding area that Cleve saw 60yrs back as a much shorter forest of trees across the road.
Also stopped into the historical buliding in town to see if they had any info. I left my number and was told they would be in touch. Found it a bit dissappointing that the historical society and the 2 antique shops in town were not familiar with the siginifigance of where they are and the Rogers drum co. existed many moons ago. The antique shops didn't have any drums but I left my number there as well. I'll keep ya posted with any new info that comes my way. One small town in NJ.
Peace, Gary

Re: Farmingdale NJ 2008 old factory location
Interesting trip, and funny drum story.
Now you got me thinking I could nip over to Birmingham and find the Boosey and Hawkes factory and the Ajax factory in Edgware. I don't think they would look quite so rural though.
