New old Daisy Rogers
Still learning about this era myself. This drum came up with lugs that look like Ludwig Zephyr lugs from the 40s. Upon further inspection they are made of a chunk o brass and tapped with no internal nut or spring. I have emailed Mr. Cook and Mr. Higgins to see if anyone can tell me where this lug design fits into the scheme of 1940s Rogers snare drums. It has the 2 hole Leedy Presto throw off and standard butt plate. Has anyone out there in Rogers land come across this before? Looking for answers with this piece of a Farmingdale NJ puzzle...
Peace, Gary

Re: New old Daisy Rogers
If it's the same one, I was going to bid on it but decided not. I was hoping you'd get it.
Another Rogers mystery.

Re: New old Daisy Rogers
Jack, Yes that is the drum from Ebay. When I saw it those lugs got me by the goo goo. I likes the freaks!
I heard back from Rob Cook and he hasn't seen these lugs either. There have been no replies to my ?post? on the Not So Modern Drummer web forum at this time. Didn't expect the responses to be flooding in. Nothing on this one so far. I might have to take the suggestion from fellow member Powertone and go hunt down some factory workers from back in the day. I am going to start gathering names and info from different sources to go on a NJ road trip this winter. I'll keep ya posted. Peace, Gary

Re: New old Daisy Rogers
Thanks Superten. If we are informed of what to look for the next one that comes up will not be seen as just an old drum. Peace, Gary

Re: New old Daisy Rogers
Took Powertones advise and looked up a some Rogers Farmingdale employees. Made some phone calls this morning and spoke to a Rogers employee from 1942. Mr. Joe Megill. He was very nice and I will meet with him this Sat morning. I will bring some old drums and listen well.
I discussed/argued it with a local friend Rogers collector and I think the odd lugs this drum has could of been a prototype for the "R" faced lug. In Ludwig the earlier Imperial lugs were tapped right into the brass. Then they improved it by adding an internal nut/spring. The "R" faced lugs have inserts that I've seen. Also if they were trying to compete with the big boy other drum makers they designed it like a solid version of a Zephyr lug to impress. Flat topped then with an R...just as flat 50s B+Bs then with a line down the middle B+Bs 50s/60s. Patterns. Sat. should be very interesting. This one is going in the car. Peace, Gary

Re: New old Daisy Rogers
You guys will hear it here first. I am bringing some old snares, books and a tape recorder for an interview in the AM. Very excieted to be able to do this. Back in 2002 I wrote an article for the NSMD on purple diamond Rogers. I will submit another one on Farmingdale after I gather more info. John is a swell guy. Peace, Gary
