Talk about tree trunks for sticks!  
This picture shows the strenth of the bass drum shells, that is a lot of weight with all those toms - then if you're beating on them with those sized sticks . . .

The weight of the drums is not being borne totally by the bass shells. With MemriLoc (unlike Swivo) a tube extends all the way to the bottom of the shell, and is anchored there. This transmits the weight to the ground. The shell would have to withstand the side to side rocking of all those drums, which I would imagine it would not do very well over time. A setup like this would be best done using tom stands.

Photoshoot - Poster Catalog
I created this monster drum kit in April 1981 to use as a centerpiece for a large poster that doubled as a Rogers catalog. The poster had a black background with this drumset in the middle and smaller pictures above and below depicting other drumset models, snares, hardware, and the colors available at the time.
You can tell from the pictures of me and Bill Hodges clowning around with the big sticks that we had this set up in the F/R/R/ sound room where they did the photo shoot. (Bill Hodges was a Fender R&D engineer.)
The picture that was used for the poster was taken looking at the front of the kit. When they broke for lunch, they told me to "just turn it around" so they could take some shots looking at the back of it. Moving that drum kit is a BIG JOB. The photographers kept one photo of the back of the kit, and you see it here. This photo was never published.
For the heck of it, Dave Gordon in marketing gave this drum kit a part number and put it in the catalog. Believe it or not, we sold a few. I remember seeing one in the window of the Rogers dealer in Las Vegas (he didn't quite know what to do with the 3rd bass drum, which was supposed to be up on stands). Another one was actually in-use as a house drumset at a theater in the midwest. Which means no one ever had to move it.
Is this configuration a good idea? To use, no way.
For an attention getting poster or dramatic display? Definitely.

What kind of theater would ever need something that size? Any theater gig I ever had (long ago) was in a small pit, with barely room for a 4 piece kit and 2 cymbals. Plus, you constantly got evil looks from the woodwinds whom you were invariably placed behind.
I would imagine those same woodwinds would rather commit suicide than sit anywhere near a kit that size!
As a side note. If you ever get the chance to play in the pit for "Guys and Dolls", take it. It's a blast to play.

John - I actually saw a set of Rogers much like these pictures in a music store in Eugene, Oregon long ago, it had to be in the late '70's. It was all black and I'm sure all the toms were one headed concert toms.

Ive seen the poster and this is also being used on the europe Rogers fan club web sight. This is way cool. For those who like to bang on things. lol My fav shot of Rogers drums for sure. Im sold! Did Rogers? really make those sticks?
