JohnC, I was wondering about any research on the bass drum/tom support bar relationship. I have heard that the bass drum shouldn't have the toms or anything bolted to it,as it hampers sound. Every kit I have,the toms mount on the b.d. Just curious of your thoughts.

Bass Drum Mounted Toms
I did participate in any research or testing regarding the effects of mounting equipment such as toms on a bass drum. From an engineer's perspective, I like the idea of transmitting the load directly to the floor like Rogers did with the XP8 bass drum mount. If there was ever a way to minimize shell distortion, that would be it.
Personally, my current preference is not to mount anything to my bass drums. Primarily based on superstition and hearsay.

And rattling maybe? My cymbal mount through the bass drum in a Londoner 7 arrangement just loves to rattle around as I pound the bass pedal...
