Freddie Tavares
1980: Freddie worked alongside Leo Fender in the very early days. Very fun guy to be around. Always wore Hawaiian shirts, so we all wore Hawaiian shirts. One day Freddie reached into that desk drawer down by his knee there and pulled out a new Skinny Drum. He said he didn't know if I'd want it because it was a "left handed model." I assured him I could still use it even though I'm right handed. Freddie had a great sense of humor and was generous to us all in so many ways. Whenever it was somone's birthday, he'd handwrite a song and perform it for us in the little entry way to the main R&D building. When I got married, we hired an accordian player for our wedding. The guy was dumbstruck when Freddie showed up with his guitar & amp so he could sit in with him to play a few songs. That was Freddie.
