1981 - R&D, Mfg. Buildings
The bottom photo shows the entrance to R&D for Fender guitars, amps and PAs, Rhodes pianos, and Rogers Drums. Until approx 1983, R&D resided in two of the ajoining buildings that Leo first used for Fender guitar manufacturing on Valencia Ave in Fullerton.
As you face this door, there is a long row of ajoining buildings to the left (shown in the top photo), and one ajoining building to the right which housed the Fender Service Center. People used to drop off their Fender gear at the Service Center to get worked on. Today the Service Center is a dive bar. The decor is NASCAR, and there is a single Fender guitar hanging on the wall. I stopped in for a beer a few years ago. The bar maid said that every now and then someone who worked at Fender stops in like I did (she could care less). You should go check it out.
The top photo was taken standing in front of the R&D entrance and looking east towards the main Fender factory (it's behind those trees). This row of ajoining buildings was the original Fender guitar and amp manufacturing facility. In 1981, these buildings also housed Rogers mfg and the F/R/R metal shop.
