1980, 81, 82 - R&D Office

The pair of photos side-by-side and the two below it were taken in Nov 1980 when I first started at Rogers. My desk is in the photo on the right, and the two work benches were along that same wall behind where I was sitting. On the other side of the filing cabinet was the drafting table that Jim Ganduglia used for a desk. After he left, I took that spot.

The top 4 photos were taken in '81 and '82. I moved the furniture around quite a bit. The work bench that's in the tilted photo is now in my garage. In all likelihood, Memriloc was born on that bench. (Holy cow, those two hammers are sitting in my tool box and I still used them around the house! This is like an I Spy game. I've got that hack saw, too. All stuff they were dumping when they moved R&D into the main Fender building. Right place at the right time.)

In the upper left corner of that photo you see hanging on the peg board what would have been the next generation Memriloc tom holder. The holes were drilled out to accept the standard 1" Memriloc tube, and it had receivers for the same Memriloc clamp that's used on the tom mounting arms. The casting is aluminum (as are the ones on your drums). I still use a few prototypes of this new design. We sent them out to a welder who does aluminum. He attached receivers from the bottom section of the Memriloc cymbal stand. These tom holders work perfectly and add considerably to the versatility of the Memriloc system. It mystifies me that none of the companies who owned Rogers after CBS did this when they had the Chinese re-tool.

Next generation Memriloc tom holder? You've got to be kidding! Awesome to behold.

The Yamaha engineers are probably looking at these shots and getting ideas...

I would say that's a concert tom without a bottom head with a chrome strip around the bottom.

That's a section of a drum shell, I don't remember why I had it. I will openly confess that I am a packrat.
