1983 - Buffing Pearl Finish

After gluing, the pearl would be buffed. This was a great opportunity to screw up the finish on a drum. If buffed wrong, the pearl would have to be stripped off by hand using acetone and a long blade.

Here again, being associated with Fender was a good thing. Buffing was a really big deal on the guitar line, so we had resources and expertise available to us.
