Re: The ol Rogers factory
Looks like a tough place. All those big belts running equipment, you can almost hear ALL the clanging and banging.
In a world before any safety regulations,no hearing protection or safety glasses.
oh,and watch out for the hole in the middle of the floor!!
I just love this photo.

Re: The ol Rogers factory and the noise level
Hi,
I expect the noise level was modest. One of my favourite annual gigs is in a historical village that has a water driven sawmill full of leather belts, pulleys, wheels etc. Even when a big old log is being ripped, the main sound you hear is the river running outside, leather belts slapping as they tighten, and creaking wheels. The sound is pleasant and easy to onthe ears.
Doubt the Rogers plant ran on water power, so they probably had one big chugging engine somewhere in the basement. If it was a steam or deisel engine, I doubt the level of one discreet engine would compare to the noise on most factory floors now. Running off the engine would be a driving wheel that would turn the belts and pulleys, which don't make a lot of noise.
Still lots of opportunity to get maimed. But in a relatively quiet way. What do you think?
cheers,
Patrick
