Re: Im the 1st to post in the Cleveland section eh?
Hey Rogersoholic, good to see you here. Hope you'll be active and add your usual wit to the board.
It took me two days to get pictures posted here but I finally got it. You have to have the pics hosted somewhere with a URL, such as Photobucket (which is a free service) or a web site with the pics on it. Then click on the insert image button up above and enter the URL for the pic. It's a little quirky but it helps to keep the spammers and creeps out.
We don't have newbies and such yet but I might have the first so many folks (I don't have a number yet) from the old ROF become charter members. I'm workin' on it.
Welcome!

Re: Im the 1st to post in the Cleveland section eh?
I don't feel like I've payed my dues to be here on the Rogers board -- I've only owned a Rogers kit for 2 days. Haven't even played it yet because it needs restoration -- but I've been surfing around for Rogers info since finding an old Rogers kit this weekend. But Rogersholic mentioned something in his first post on this thread that stirred up a memory for me. Yes - I've had a couple glasses of wine, then a couple of beers - so my courage is up and here I go. The comment about musicians not wanting to go on after a giant. I did - back in '86 or '87, I think. Worst gig of my life. I was in the only original band I've ever been in. I was waiting on tables instead of gigging so I could be in this band. This was our second gig ever. It''s a college Spring Fling. We sent in a demo, and got booked to go on after Allan Holdsworth, and before The Ramones. Hard to come up with a tougher spot, I think. Things that went wonky. 1) Flat tire on highway on the way to the gig. 2) I got yelled at by a Ramones roadie while warming up backstage. 3)Our female voclaist (not our lead vocalist, but main bg vocals plus lead vocals on some songs) skips the gig due to it coinciding with a local beauty contest - "Miss Willingboro, NJ". 4)No sound check. 5)A friend of the band who knows nothing about mixing or audio, but knows our material goes to the sound booth with our set list unbeknownst to us, the band, so he can hip the engineer to what to expect for each song. But the house sound guy mistakes him for a sound engineer and leaves him at the board to mix. 5)Holdsworth (with Gary Husband & Jimmy Johnson) kill! Now we're on, and the makeup of the crowd changes over to Ramones fans -- hardcore punkers. We're not punk. 6) When the crowd hates us, our guitar player delivers a long lecture. To 2,000 punkers. Ah, well - at least my best friend George managed to scoop up a frisbee that landed on the stage near the drums that I had thrown back into the audience. Did I mention the Ramones manager poking his head through the skirt of the Ramones'of the drum riser behind ME to tell me our set was being cut short? Can anyone top that crapulent excuse for a gig? OMG. Worst gig ever - and it was supposed to the beginning of better things to come. Sheesh.

Wow - sounds like trial by fire.
Maybe we should start a post in the Miss section titled "Gigs from Hell" Then to keep a balance - "Best Gigs"

Sounds like a nightmare, but you opened for the freakin' Ramones!!! When you re-tell that story to your friends while sipping a few cold beers, leave out the bad parts and just say, "I opened for the freakin' Ramones!"
Welcome to the forum.

Re: Im the 1st to post in the Cleveland section eh?
Thank you all for the welcome and the sympathy - it is much appreciated. I'm sure we've all been there to some degree or another. I'm going to check the Misc. category to see if a worst gig thread gets started. And superten -- that's hysterical!
About this kit -- Jack - you've seen it on the Vintage Drum Forum, which is where I found the link to this website. BTW - I appreciate your comments there very very much. Thank you.
I didn't include photos in my last post because I didn't want to be redundant as I'm sure there is a cross-over in members between the two sites. But I'm posting some now - I hope you don't mind.
About the kit -- I am flipping out because I picked up this early 1960's Holiday kit at yard sale this past weekend FOR FREE!! They were just sitting there waiting, with a "Free" sign taped to the kick. The snare drum does not have a badge or label, and its interior is not painted. Plus, the sound edge is dead flat - no angle. I've never seen a sound edge without some angle to it - I'm dying to get new heads on it and replacment pieces so I can hear what the heck it sounds like. I was told that it definitely is NOT a Rogers. If anyone has an idea who made it please post. It has been suggested that it might be vintage Japanese, possibly Pearl.
I'm very glad to be here. Pics below.
