and in 1957...
Had these pages from 1957 and made the time tonight to scan them. Early pre Swivo Rogers. We had bass pedals but no HH stand just yet. Odd to see Champion drums on the same page as Rogers toms. I think someone was asking about the Champion brand in another thread. Only small blurbs about their own Holiday floor toms on 2 pages. Rogersoholic- yes just 16". Had to enlarge the 5 guys on a shell pic. Classic. Orchestra throw offs and Scottie ahhhh Enough rant. Enjoy and please discuss discuss...Rogers Rogers Rogers pages!!!!!
Peace, Gary

Re: and in 1957...
Wow Gary you rock! So they did make a 16" flat top B&B lugged Fl tom {only avail in 3 color choices} I have never seen one, so they must be rare, but not a 14". So I must have one of the 1st ones made.
I do have some of the items shown, like the 684b with back throne, the key, the bass muffler, wood block holder, cow bell holder, bass mounted cymbal holder with L arm, a morroca, snappy wires in the box. Some of which is listed in the 62R. You sure do learn alot with these cataloges.
DC put his initials on the spotlight bass drum head in pencil. lol Someone was dreaming about Rogers.
Some big changes were made in the early 60's with Rogers drums eh? Sizes, configuirations, types, bearing edges, and no COBS yet. I wonder who the employees are standing on that drum. I wonder which ones Frank W.
Id love to have the drum on top of the building too.
Thanx Gary!

That was fun Gary. I would love to have that blue spotlight. I just missed that era as I got my first Rogers in 64.

Re: and in 1957...
Thanks Jack and RogersO! I only had a photo copy of the 1957E 8 page catalog. Then I came across these 20-24 pages from 1957. If the earlier 1956 catalog was 20 pages and considered the first real OH catalog then...there you have it-ALL! The 56 and 57 20 page catalogs were nearly identical. Anything earlier in print out of OH was 1955 4 pages of Rogers that showed 3 outfits, seven snare, bass and parade drums. I've only seen the 55 snare page as posted on the bottom of this page:
http://vintagesnaredrums.com/rogers_history_1938-1954_1954-1955.html
Seems like the only difference was in the Holiday snare that came out screamin with clips and single flanged hoops in 55. I don't think Scottie Plaid was offered in 55. Curious about the number of colors offered for the first Rogers in 55. Tall hoops are shown in 1957. In 1957 you could get every sparkle except for Champagne. Swivo hardware the following year #59R 1958 60 page catalog.
RogersO, Please post some pics of your early floor tom. The Rogers Cook Book pg 24 caption under the factory picture reads, "The large letters and drum on the roof were evidently liberties taken by an artist-former employees are sure they never existed." Also noted in the Cook Book was that a display in 1957 of Rogers drums were commented on by the other drum competetors of the time and seen as "a nice bunch of toys." This angered Grossman and sparked Joe Thompson to design that later 1958 Swivo serious drum hardware.
My first Rogers were in 1987/88 and they were a 1964/65. Peace, Gary

Re: and in 1957...
I already posted pics when I finished it, if you recall. It was the one that had no feet {slippers}. I can again. I just got the tension rods too and replaced all the lugs to no crack$. Wow I dont see much difference between the Broadway and the Holiday, except a 20 dollar increase in price. Thanx again Gary

Re: and in 1957...
RogersO, Yes same amount of lugs that were double tension but...the Broadway was limited in size offered and in the final finish-only Duco. Them fancy top end models(Holiday) were in the plastic pearl finishes with the newer improvements like the triple flanged tall hoops. In the 40s sometimes the only difference in model type was if it had an internal tone control or not. Those prices were creeping up as the years went along. Peace, Gary

Re: and in 1957...
Had a computer crash yestereday, so I'm just catching up. Gary, this is great reading. Rogers-O, I would like to see a pic of that outfit again.
I'ts great listening to you two jabber about the really old Rogers stuff--I know Gary, that's as opposed to really, really old, and really really really old!

Re: and in 1957...
Once again, I'm finding myself thanking Gary for his vast information. Researching which snare wire I should have, sure got easier from the pictures above! thanks.
