B & B lug screws.

Hi People, I've got a 63ish Holiday kit with B & B lugs. It has rusty lug screws, from a prior owners mistreatment. What I need to know is. Were they originally nickel plated or zinc. They look like zinc now with age. I only want to replace them with what was originally fitted. or I'll work with what It has. The day I picked up this kit, another rogers drum I found as an orphan on a New Zealand website arrived. A red sparkle 16" x 16" flr tom. Its serial number was consecutive with the floor tom in the kit. What are the odds? The kit is BDP constellation I believe.

Zinc.. Thats what gives them that fuzzy look. Come to think of it, my whole kit gives me the warm fuzzies.

I wouldn't replace them, the greatest value of your drum is when it's ALL original, right down to the washers.

Thanks guys. i know what you are saying about keeping it original down to the scews and washers. Thats why i'm looking for identical or I won't change them. The guy I got them from, rescued them from a wood shed, they had been being used with out bottom hoops prior to being ??? left for dead in the shed.

I bought several toms recently and am seriously wondering what was standard, original etc hardware wise.

Cleveland, Dayton and Fullertons. Some have a small washer and a large washer per lug. Others have star shaped washers with lotsa little points.

Other things are easy for me to spot with my novice eye, such as non Rogers T rods. But how about Hoops? 2 of my toms are different eras Fullerton 13, dayton 12, but have same Taller hoops. This is different than the shorter hoops on my Cleveland pair of 12's. How do I even tell which hoops are Rogers and which have been made elsewhere?

Rogers rims generally have a smaller ledge at the tee rod hole than other brands.

The different washer types can help in dating a drum.

Thanks Jack, I believe I am lucky then that all 5 of the Rogers toms I have have the Original hoops. Were there tall and short versions that are Correctly Rogers despite being different heights?

Yes, Rogers had a standard rim and what we call "tall boys". I believe the tall rims are 1 3/8 high. The tall rims came on the early Rogers drums up till 64 I believe. Bruce, I hope I've got that right.

Flat grey CLeveland and Dayton drums had big/little flat washers and slot-head screws. This continued until the speckled interior paint started in Dayton about the end of 1967.

The big/little flat washers remained but the screws changed to hex head screws. This stayed until mid to late 1968 and then they switched to star washers, both the same size.

This stayed the same thru the move to CA.

Tall hoops went away with B&B lugs. There were some B&B drums with standard hoops and Beavertail drums with tall hoops. This was a transitional period, quite frankly they were always in transition, just some times more noticeably than others.

They just built drums and got them out the door. If you ran out or didn't have what you needed to finish a drum, you went over to another assembly table and grabbed what you needed.

Well, My Cleveland eras have the short hoops,
I just looked at my 12 Dayton and 13 Fullerton and it seems the 12 has 2 tall ones, the 13 has 1 tall one short, JUST MY LUCK HA

The tall hoops I have all measure approx 1 5/16 while the short measure 1 1/16-1 1/8
