First B+B lugs

As I dig some more into those older draped rectangle badge snares I think the B+B flat top lugs found were OH 1952-1955 drums and not Farmingdale NJ era. The following two are 2 of 4 variations found in the flat top "coffin" style lug:

The tabs looks rivited to the casing. Also the initial stock looks to be much thinner. I also noticed no alighning ferrel? Does the tab block continue inside to hold the rods? Can you do me a favor tooo pal. Take a magnet to the top one for me. Thanx.

Rogersoholic, I'm moving the other two variations to the OH section here:

The tabs are held by a capped top push nub on one and a small raised threaded attachment on the other. If any one knows the proper term please feel free to add. So I can stop calling it a nub! Same concept. A long block of metal, along the inside face props up those small square chunks of metal lug nuts to sit center of the top and bottom hole(to accept a tension rod). They are floating in there with an over sized spring to push/hold them apart. Those internal tabs are a little L shape and thicker for more support for the screw that hold it to the shell. It was probably too expensive and the hollowed out version was similar in design with folded over tabs. I think they are brass. I will try to find a magnet for the lugs and the metal shell from the other thread. The lugs with the crazy internals(1952?-1953?) are nickel plated where the hollow ones are chrome(1954?-1955?). Praise Joe Thompson!

Still learning, Gary

You can see the top to bottom spacer plate here:

I think those little "nubs" are a solid rivet of sorts. I think those "L" shaped pieces were held in by that nub/rivet. It looks like it was set with a tool that made those two little v notches and the sides and end expanded and held the "L" shaped piece in place.

Yes Rogersoholic and Bruce. Thanks for the push/answers/questions!

Upon closer inspection these rivet coffin lugs have an internal bracing system for the thin outer shell construction. The rivets hold the bracing to it's outer flat shell. They don't split because the pressure isn't on the outer shell it's on the solid U shape inner brace.

The tabs are connected to the back piece I called a spacer. It does prop up the square chunk(lug nut) to allign it with the top and bottom holes. It looks like a one piece version of: [_____]

If Rogers was purchased in 1952 by Grossman these would be early Covington OH barn works in progress for the 1955 Eagle badge line. Made by the hands of Mr. Joe Thompson. They couldn't make the lugs with the heavy solid cast brass design of the 1940 "R" lugs. They hollowed it out and then simplified with a bent over tab and spring/insert that didn't shift around because the newer chrome design has lug nuts that fit into the holes(top and bottom) of the chrome lug shell.

Dig the popsickle stick-like early Orchestra throw off:

If I crack off those bent over metal tabs on all those cracked B+B lugs can I place an inner support to use just the chrome outer shell as a housing? End up where it started out! LOL Now how am I going to get this lug back together...I know-very carefully! Peace, Gary
