Very nice, drumgrrl.

Trying to make out the finish...Sky Blue? Blue Strata Pearl?

It has an extra set of holes drilled on the bass drum..it looks like ti was set up for a right handed single tom and then changed to a left handed... but not sure til i get the kit..

Hi and welcome,

We'll/you'll be able to tell better when you get the kit, but it looks like a flat gray interior Daytons. The 86xxx serial number dates those to mid 1967. Blue Strata Pearl is a rare finish and only offered in 1967.

From the photos you provided the interiors on my computer look to be flat gray.

Flat gray interiors switched to speckled gray late 1967 around serial number 90xxx.

Hey, Longroll, how then do you explain a flat grey interior kit, all with serial #'s 110xxx? And, the kick drum, and all three toms are within xxxx73 numbers of each other? emoticon olddrummer

Rogers manufacturing was done in Covington. Warehousing and distribution was in Cleveland. 1966 CBS buys Rogers and moves Cleveland functions to Dayton. All Covington operation are moved to Dayton in 1967, less than two years later all is moved to Fullerton, CA.

The moving of a business. The down time in production. The retraining at a new facility. Hiring and training new people, it's a wonder that Rogers did as well as they did.

110xxx serial numbers are late 1968 early 1969. Because your number are so close, I'd say your set was a special order set and they used shells that had all the same color interior, flat gray.

Maybe they didn't have all the sizes needed in speckled gray, but had them in flat gray shells set aside for repairs or replacements. No one knows for sure.

Trying to figure what they did, and how and when these drums were assembled, is like working on a huge puzzle that never ends.

That's why it's so great when we get someone that's the first owner of a drum or drum set and know where and when it was purchased. We add this info to what we have.

Bruce

You can find Blue Strata pearl on the back color page in the 67/68 catalog and the 1970 catalog. All three stratas, blue, black and pink, were offered at the same time. I used to own a Blue Strata Luxor(far left in pic) that had a speckled grey interior with a Cleveland OH tag. When I heard about a Strata drum with a Cleve tag I thought it was a fake. When I saw it I believed. They used up all tags and chrome parts when assembling these drums. The strata pearl finishes were semi transparent. Some look 3-D. I have found the later Fullerton examples to be more solid in color with less clear spots to see the outer shell. So...flat grey(Dayton mainly) interior to speckled grey and Cleve(not often), Dayton and Fullerton tags can be found on Strata Rogers drums. Picture below is from the Rogers book and can be used for the rainbow of color variation of this beautiful blue finish. Please post a finish pic when you clean up your blue Strata kit. It's cool to know there is passion in Australia for Rogers too! I have a lot of respect for the work Bruce is doing to make sense of the serial numbers. I still don't know...Peace, Gary
