Quest to find my original Dayton Rogers kit
Jack - thanks for the heads up on the forum change.
Hi folks. I'm new here. I'm 47 and have been playing for 30+ years.
My first 'real' kit was a Dayton Rogers kit and it served me well. Like the stupid kid I was then, I didn't know what I had and I sold it for a larger kit - it was the 80's and big drums and big hair were in. I've kicked myself ever since, but feel free to let me have it anyway.
I've started searching for the guy I sold them to in the slim hopes he still has them or might know where they went. I know it's a long shot but I'd love to track them down and see if I can get them back.
All I know about them is the label said Dayton, OH, the mounting hardware was six-sided and the finish was a black pearl or such, very similar to this kit...

Chances are I'll never see them again and I'll end up buying another similar kit, but I figure I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Wish me luck.

Re: Quest to find my original Dayton Rogers kit
The Rogers drum set in the link is a 22/13/16 with matching Dynasonic in Black Onyx Pearl.
If you give more info, like where you sold them, the persons name, someone might help you locate this set. It could still be out there. Lets hope some "YO YO" didn't strip it and sell the parts on ebay.
Best of luck to you,
Bruce

Good luck!
That would be so cool if you were able to track them down. Even cooler if that person put them in cases and stored them for the last twenty years and sells them to you for fifty bucks! That's what I'm wishing happens for you!

Re: Quest to find my original Dayton Rogers kit
Yes, I agree there is a possibility. You never know until you search around. I sold my first Rogers kit when I was young/dumb/needed money as well. It was a natural Big R and it was great! The guy I sold them to still has them and won't sell them back!!! At least I know that when he does they are coming back to me.

Re: Quest to find my original Dayton Rogers kit
It was early-mid 80's. I sold them while I was still in Virginia. I don't recall the guys name, but I know an old band mate who *might* remember (if I'm lucky). The guy I sold them to was younger than me and I was only early twenties at the time, so it's a crap shoot whether or not he still has them. More likely he sold them to someone who knew what they were and still has them. If that's the case I can live with myself knowing they're in good hands Hopefully I can find out one way or the other.
The kit had full hard cases at the time so there's hope they've remained cased all this time and not abused when set up. I'm trying to track down the old band mate. I moved away from Virginia in 96 and lost track of him, but the internet is a wonderful tool

Re: Quest to find my original Dayton Rogers kit
I sold mine too. What a heartbreak. I've thought of contacting the guy I sold them to but the WMP would be so aged that it wouldn't be the same.
I hope you get your drums back.

Re: Quest to find my original Dayton Rogers kit
Sounds like a worthy adventure K7mto.
What is it with selling friends kits who will not sell them back! Grrrr. How cool would that be to piece your entire kit back together. You might need to be prepared to open up the pocketbook as many are in on the Rogers price gouging these days. Booo!! Good luck!

Re: Quest to find my original Dayton Rogers kit
My quest for that first kit ended in sorrow. They belonged to my drum teacher in 1975 when I first started playing. In late 1976 or early 77, they were sold, I never got a chance for them. In the mid 90s I tracked down the person who bought them, and found out they were stored in a barn unprotected for years and were destroyed. So, in 04, I found, and now own...... a 66 Dayton 20-12-14-16 with matching 63 Powertone, in sparkling blue pearl.
