Rogers XP8 Green Glass Recover!!

Recover is right...... XP8 orphans, horribly disfigured by illusage, reborn, and joined by keller 8 ply floor tom

16x18 Bass Drum
8x12 High Tom
14x14 Keller 9 ply maple Floor Tom

These drums came to me in bad shape. This was my winter project in 2002-03. Played out first time at gospel concert in May 03.

Hoops are aftermarket 2.3 mm, Lugs and inserts are Rogers Big R XP8 era, all mounts are Cleveland Pat. Pend in excellent shape.

First time out. Early May, 03

November 2006, finished finally, Swivo mounts, and using Swivo hardware. Ok, I admit thats an Iron Cobra Hat stand, and an Iron Cobra pedal, and the snare is a 1969 Slingerland 6 lug 5.5x14 in ORIGINAL Green Sparkle, which is a perfect match to the new green glitter... except for the more orange peel look to the original wrap.

They play and sound really nice. Classic Rogers.

Ploughman, great project. the last photo shows the best of all worlds. Tom mounted to the bass drum, matching pieces. What a metamorphosis! Lots of hard work, I'm sure.

Yes, the green set are XP8 orphans, the 18 and 12 both had major issues with the original wraps. The 14 is an 8 ply keller raw shell with double 45 bearing edges. The donor drum for the 14 was a tobacco sunburst that was mostly burst by the time it got to me. The lugs were beautiful, the shell was crap. I paid a small fortune for very nice cleveland era pat. pend. swivo fittings to complete the set. Floor tom mounts are Fullerton Swivo. Ive got far more into it than I could ever hope to get out of it. I did the recover in the winter of 02-03, and the seems are nice and tight still. I used CON BOND spray adhesive for laminate, trimmed and filed the edges by hand. Because it is a recover, and has the Swivo mounts, this is the primary reason there are no ROGERS script logos or badges on the set. Ive thought about having three badges custom made, but so far, havent followed through with that. Should I ever tire of them and decide to sell them off......the Swivo hardware is worth far more by itself than the set is together, even though the recover job is near perfect.

Ploughman, thanks for sharing this. I'm interested in the craftsmanship ionvolved in these rewraps, and I can tell you're really into it. It sounds reminiscent of replating and repainting parts on a vintage sports car, then finishing it off with a new interior.

Ploughman, do you have any vintage cars that you do the same kind of painstaking work on?
