Powertone time w/pics

Hello,
I am curious about this Powertone Ive had for all these years. Anyways, thanks for the love of the Rogers, I have learned enough to run the "Rogers Snare" category on Jeopardy.

I did find that it's probably 1963, as the No. is 3367.
Cleveland Powertone. There is an "F" written in pencil in the upper left hand corner of the inside tag. Not sure what "clockface" means, but the snare flip thing is circular, with a raised rectangle with Rogers logo and made in usa under it.

How do you know if it's COB or steel?
Which is better or more valuable?

Am I correct about year?
What might the value be? It has some minor pitting, I'd call it good condition, players drum.

Use a kitchen magnet on the shell. If COB, it will try to stick because of the chrome, but will be very weak. I believe Powerton shells were all COB, more valuable.

Not sure of date, but throwoff (snare flip thing) looks early 60's. I think there is a dating guide around here that may give more accurate info.

It should be COB, it is a 1963, that is a Clockface throwoff. The F was put there by the Assembler in the Rogers factory when it was brand new.Polish it up, stay away from steel wool, that will devalue it. 200-350.00 depending on shine.

Hi,
Does Cleveland vs. Dayton change the price?
I have a friend who wants to buy it from me and he keeps telling me that it is not worth that much and I hand it to him, the ebay ads do prove that not many are selling for much over 200 bux, but the only examples he can provide are Dayton made Powertones.
How important is made in cleveland?
Thanks

You have a first year Powertone, with early, first run Beavertail lugs, Clockface throwoff...... and I think your friend ought to pony up and pay the piper if he wants this dance.

I just finished watching the HBO John Adams episode 4 where George Washington is sworn in as president. Mere seconds after it was over I read your post, and choice of words...it was like a great moment in american history for me, that you think so highly of my snare sir.
You have protected me from tyrany, not unlike George Washington.
Thank you suh!

All Powertones have brass shells. Your drum is worth around $250-300, depending on condition, market timing etc...
