posticon Dynasonic Snare Frames

Dynasonic snare wire frames, pictures are bottom to top and right to left.

Bottom and right hand: Version 1 first generation production model used on the first 1000 Dynasonic snare drums. Two screws on fixed end, no height adjustment on either end. This one is NOS.

2nd from bottom: Version 2, single screw with two posts on fixed end, height adjustment on tension screw end.
Version 3, the same as above no posts on fixed end.

3rd from bottom: Version 4, single screw on fixed end and height adjustment on both ends. This version was used from about serial number 5000 until the change in late 1974.

4th from bottom (top): The blunt end version late 1974, used with the one piece welded bottom rim and on Big R Dynasonic. No height adjustment on either end.

Yes! at least now I know what to look for. It does "appear" that 3 of the 4 will function on a 1st generation dyna drum right? The adjustment set up seams different too on the 1st gen. I take it none of your dynas have a "gut" snare set up and why would this gut set up be requested or preffered? Thanx for your efforts, appreciated.

Actually any of those frames will work on any Dynasonic, they just wont be period correct.

I do have a gut snare frame and I think I have a Dynasonic that has one on it. I'll dig through my stuff and see if I do, and post some pictures.

The gut snare wires were preferred by orchestra players.

This is a close picture of the end part of a 1st Gen frame from Dyna Sonic 1252 - Drummer Ken sold this one.

Re: Dynasonic Snare Frames

Rogersoholic,
I didn't buy that snare, but it sold for around $650 and it was one of those thin Gretsch shell Dynas that Bruce mentioned, that could have been one of the last ones before they went to the 2nd Generation COB shell with the dual bead.

I ended up buying a frame at an open auction on Ebay, that frame had been on a 1965 Ludwig snare drum that the owner inherited. I paid $212 and I was pleased to find one, that is currently on my 6 1/2" COB Dyna #1664 - just 2 away from yours Rogersoholic!

It has the barrel at the one end instead of the arch. Ken's stuff is good, clean and original - there is actually 2 holes, if you look close at the edge of the black rubber guard you can see the black string threaded through it.

Below is the one I got.

Rogersoholic,
This is the snare that I got & the frame that came with it...

The frame that was on Dyna-Sonic 1750 was identical to this one. Perhaps there was a cross over around 1700 on the frame style or at least a transition from 1st generation to the 2nd generation. If that is what this frame is.

Its hard to rely on that frame for dating, its usually the 1st thing taken off or ends up missing. Nice drum dude.
