Re-Applying Wrap (or inlay)
I noticed that the inlay on my bass drum hoop is starting to come off. What would you recommend I use to stick the inlay back onto the hoop? Would ordinary contact cement be OK or should I use something else?
Thanks,
Danny

Re: Re-Applying Wrap (or inlay)
3M makes a glue that most of the pro's use. It's mentioned in several posts. I'll see if I can find it for you.

Re: Re-Applying Wrap (or inlay)
I had some inlay come off. Turns out they were glued over a painted groove. I believe they would have held if the inlay was unpainted, which is how I repaired them with good results using Weldwood Contact Cement.
The inlay ends used to be stapled as well by some makers.

Re: Re-Applying Wrap (or inlay)
Beware of solvent based contact cement for drum wraps, not recommended as it can eat through over time and discolor the wrap. You must use water based contact cement. The drum builders first choice is 3M 30NF as mentioned. It is water based. Many drum builders use Weldwood Non-Flammable Contact Cement in a green can, it is water based. I have used it for drum wraps, works great.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the info. I'll go out and get myself some of the 3M stuff today.

Which you can't buy in Australia, would you believe. Unless someone orders a pallet load.
Since 9/11 nothing like the glue or the trunk paint we are talking about can go on planes anymore.

Re: Re-Applying Wrap (or inlay)
OK, I've been to both Home Depot and Lowes and neither place carries 3M 3ONF. Do you think I'd have better luck in a small hardware store?

Re: Re-Applying Wrap (or inlay)
Lowes does carry the DAP Weldwood brand of water based contact cement. Got a can 4 months ago in Grand Forks, ND. It is in a green can and the label reads "non flammable contact cement". Hardware Hank used to carry it also. Got some there 2 years ago.
But if you can't find either the 3M brand or DAP, I think any water based contact cement will work. The key is to avoid the solvent based cement as it will eventually eat the wrap, so they say.
