Rogers 9/72 splatter paint

Hello! i have a nice Rogers 9/72 set, with a bassdrum that has some extra holes. As you know, plugging extra holes and rewrapping is no problem,but.. the trunk paint thing! Does anyone out there know where or how to get the correct paint for the inside of a Rogers 9/72 drum? Thanks!

Trunk paint in a spray can from the auto parts store, or the same thing from Home Depot, is the closest you will get.

Got some trunk paint from NAPA. Color was good, but left a textured surface. Anyway around that - wipe down when wet?

The speckled finish inside the drums varied so widely, in color and smoothness, over the years 1968-79, that I never worried about the smoothness of the finish when I resprayed.

Of course, if you're trying to match a drum to the rest of a kit it might be an issue, but it really isn't that critical in my opinion. The drums were originally sprayed with a spraygun/compressor setup, using paint that was stored in large containers.
For that reason the consistancy varied a lot and I feel it would be practically impossible to match a particular day/week/month/year of production.

I've also noticed that after a year or so, the spray can finish seems to level out a little more as it dries.

paco2,
I am the guy who has sprayed Zolotone grey and it came out close to rogers drum interior color. I emailed you earlier today with more details. If you don't get the email, please reply to this post in the forum and I will correspond through the forum, but sending pics will be easier for me by direct email. Marley

For those interested in the zolatone grey spatter paint, I sent Paco2 in Sweden some color samples I sprayed onto cardboard and paper backings. When he gets them, I hope he posts his thoughts on how they compare to his 9\72 interiors. Since he lives so far, it is costly for him to have Zolatone shipped, so he asked me to send samples before he orders. I have a few paper sample sheets sitting here, so if anyone else wants a sample with a view to ordering zolatone, email or the like. I can send. Marley

Hello! thanks a lot Marley! i just got the zolatone samples, and they are a very very good match! I have a Dayton set at home right now,and zolatone matches the Dayton drums absolutely perfectly! As we all know,Rogers splatter paint is different on different drums, but this is great. If you have a Rogers drumset with nasty extra holes, zolatone is the thing!
