 COB repair from Bruce!
This is Bruce's tip on fixing dents in COB shells. Jack
To get the best results tapping out the inward bulge is to take the drum apart right down to the bare shell. Then on a flat surface covered with a double layer of cotton tee shirt type material, lay the shell down and tap just where the shell is supported. Tap lightly, these COB shells are soft, check it every time you tap, take your time.
With a oval face (] hard rubber mallet, the oval has to be slight , like the curvature of a coffee cup, I've straightened some pretty bad COBs and had good success.

I gotta tell you guys, THIS WORKS.......It took me awhile and it wasn't a COB dyna, but it was a chrome snare, and you can't even tell it was dented now.......AND I was thinking of Bruce the whole time.....SMILIN'

Funny. This got me thinking. My COB Dyna has been with me since new in 1967. From Connecticut to Seattle to Portland. In and out of vans, cars and trucks. Never in a case until put in storage in 1983. Ever. To gigs and back home, and to gigs again, wrapped in a towel--no joke.
I thought it was perfect--and it nearly is. But sure enough, it has a dent under one lug. Barely perceptible, but any of you guys--especially Ploughman--would notice it in an instant.
So I'm gonna do it! I'm going to tear it down and do the mallet trick. The last time it was apart was when I put heads on it. In 1979. Jeez. It's been almost 30 years. I've cleaned it with a damp cloth once or twice, but she's never been polished, and she still looks darn good.
I have no other possession made of chrome that looks as nice as that piece of art--this time machine--from Dayton Ohio.

I showed a colleague a picture on the web of my snare collection. She immediately picked out the COB Dyna and said "How cool! It looks like Dennis Hopper should be riding it!"

This works!!! I had to sand(on a belt sander) my rubber mallet on one side to give a curve. Worked like a charm...If only it were a Rogers not a Slingy. LOL
