considering reworking the ranking system.

ive been giving the ranking system some thought.

to my knoledge no one has been keeping records of battle attendance since ive been gone. this points out an inherent flaw in our current system. its totally based around one person collecting and updating everything. its a totally top heavy system.

so to that end im going to be looking into a new, easier way of doing ranks.

also thinking of bringing in the iron/stone guard idea that rog had some years ago.

and please let me know what you think aboyt the belt flags because the more i think about it the more i think it makes us less unique. im thinking about loosing them or altering them.

so you all know im thinking of creating the new ranking system in a similar way to these guys.

Sounds good to me. Although I personally wouldn't include anything requiring people to attend a certain number of events in a certain time or to beat certain people.

yeah, i was thinking of making it more goal and service oriented rather than combat oriented. like submitting a back story or donating loaner gear.

another step hopefully in making us the characterization unit in Taurendor.

still in the planning stages.

What about arm rings to show rank and positions? Maybe a certain number for rank and a certain color for leadership positions?

And to show membership in the Rogin specifically, we could use something practical to emphasize the harsh nature the life of a barbarian would have. Some sort of versatile piece of armor or clothing that would halp you out in surviving but something that wouldn't get in the way in a fight.

took me a while but heres what i came up with. i was having trouble coming up with names for ranks. i want something simple and conveys level or seniority, not occupation. if that makes sense. any ideas for names would be helpful. also and comments or critiques would be cool.

please note this is not the law now. just a trial baloon.

Revamped Rogin Ranking system and removal of belt flags.
Written by Frothgar on the 26th of September, 2009.

Reasoning:
Ranking system
· The current ranking system seems too cumbersome. It is completely reliant on one person to maintain logs of every battle attended.
· The names of the ranks are more descriptions of duties rather than levels of grade.
· The ranks pass to quickly for them to be any significant place mark of growth.
· There are no rewards, no benefits to progressing in rank.

Belt Flag-
· Though they are small and simple the belt flag is still a bit of uniform. And uniformity has never been what this unit is about.
· Making and distributing belt flags is apparently a problem. As we have a number of fighters without flags.
· Every unit and there mother does belt flags. Originality is where we should shine.

New language:
Ranking system

In the Rogin we have established a ranking system for our members. This system helps to divide camp and battlefield responsibilities to the most able. For example if we arrive at a two night campout the warriors might be assigned to establish a campsite and set up tents while the slayers will go and start helping with weapons check.

Being of higher rank does not entitle a member to order around a lower ranked member on or off the battlefield.

The Ranks within the Rogin are as follows.

(Thrall)- Someone who is new to the game and or the unit. Also a noncombatant.
· Must take the oaths upon joining the unit.

Warrior- A regular rank and file fighter in the unit. Meets all of the following requirements:
· 2 passing weapons (shield counts as weapon)
· Pass an oral test on basic Dagorhir rules. (weapon damage and such)
· 2 sets of beginner (or better) garb that passes unit and realm inspection.
· A written description of their character and any pertinent info, no less than 1 page.
· 6 months of active membership. (active= one battle per month, practice attendance and constructive online presence can be accepted if extenuating circumstances arise. )
· An in character picture submitted on the Rogin bulletin board.
· Passes a review of conduct *

Once all of the requirements are met the member is inducted as a warrior. He/she may now wear the Rogin R on their shield, garb, armour, or weapon.

(Slayer)- a Leader in the unit, a fighter who displays suitable dedication to the Rogin and to Dagorhir. They are an example to all would be Dagorhirim and Rogin. To become an (Slayer) the following requirements must be met.
· Have built 5 passing melee weapons (shields count as weapons), and three passing missile weapons (rocks excluded)
· Pass an oral test for specific Dagorhir rules (weapons checking)
· Posses and wear armour suitable for their character
· Volunteer regularly for weapons check and heralding duty.
· Show 2 years of active membership since becoming a warrior.
· Display proficiency in a non-combat character appropriate craft (i.e. leather/metal working, armour smithing, instrument playing, rune casting, woodcraft…) (foamsmithing is excluded)
· Pass a gauntlet of the 5 most veteran Rogin present at any event lasting 2 nights or more. Gauntlet shall be a one on one trial by combat until all veteran have been defeated once.
· Display 2 complete outfits of veteran level (or better) garb.
· Pass a review of conduct.*

Once all the requirements are met the (Slayer) is permitted to (control over a number of thralls? A title to follow their name? )

*Review of conduct:
· Held directly before any rank advancement
· The reviewers will be the fighters from the rank above the prospective.
· There will be a question and answer period followed by a sequestered council of the higher ups. When the prospective returns they are given the verdict.
· (speak to people who have personal problems with the prospective ahead of the ceremony. )

Belt Flags

The Rogin as a unit have a standard. Our symbol is the runic R. Rogin of warrior rank and above are permitted to inscribe the R on garb, weapons, shields etc.

Sounds awesome to me. Definitely more befitting of the Rogin and not just any old unit.

The one thing that seems out of place is the gauntlet for Slayer rank. It seems more like something Order of Tauren would do. I'm not sure what we would do instead, and I mean it works.

Under these rules, would we all start over and work on earning the Warrior rank or would old ranks transfer over?

Why'd you need my email by the way? And I'll be more than happy to post my pictures on yet another forum.
