Nemo of Calh

The full story of Nemo is long and complicated, spanning countless generations and worlds beyond reckoning. Included are the only details pertaining to Nemo's stay among the Rogin.

Nemo was born in the 7th Era 2755 in the city-state of Calh in the land of Olor on the world Ufria. His father was the captain of the bodyguard for the King of Calh, a highly respected warrior throughout all of Olor. The chieftain of a barbarian tribe centered in the neighboring city of Shiin attempted to kill the King of Calh, but his bodyguard was able to hold him off while Nemo was sent for help. Nemo returned in time to see his father killed. The chieftain, Ominent Skii, fled into the night.

Nemo committed himself to becoming a great warrior in honor of his father. At fifteen he was already an accomplished warrior as skilled as any in the army of other city-states, but the standards of Calh and Nemo's late father were much higher. Being well born and monetarily privileged, he was able to join the ranks of the Teacher, an enigmatic weapons master whose lessons were desired by lords across Olor.

Under the tutelage of the Teacher, Nemo met Thom of Beck. The two became great friends and warriors alike in every way. Thom, too, had a vendetta against Skii, and when the two felt they were ready, they sought Skii and slew him. Unfortunately, Thom was killed in the fight. Nemo never recovered from the loss of his friend.

Nemo's skills were a great commodity. His wealth rivaled that of the emperors of old thanks to contracts given to him by kings and merchants. Countless people fell to Nemo's blades, and his fame spread across the continent. His life, despite his pay, was a poor one, and he sought to end the life of constant killing and danger. His final contract took him through the forest of Lusaer the dreaded Brotherhood resided.

The Brotherhood was a less-than-respectful name for the Brotherhood of the Marked Palm. An Era previous, the Brotherhood had been the religious leaders of Olor. They led with a shining example and the world was better for their leadership. However, a few, rich people chafed under the universal prosperity. They condemned the church and gained the support of the people. Seeking only peace, the Brotherhood submitted without a fight and hid in Lusaer.

The source of the Brotherhood's power had been marks on their right palms representing each of the elements. Through these marks they could control the elements of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Ice, Stone, Forest, Metal, Lightning, Shadow, Light, Life, Time, and Darkness. These marks were a gift from the gods, and they also granted fast, but not instant, healing.

On Nemo's final mission, he was betrayed by those who accompanied him and left for dead. The Brotherhood adopted him and gave him the mark of Metal, with which he could manipulate any metallic object. During his stay in Lusaer, he was also given guidance by the goddess of the Forest, Eya, to get the Forest Sword, which gave him the ability to talk to animals and to control the growth of plant life. The sword he renamed Eya'Tal, the Talon of Eya.

It was also during Nemo's stay in Lusaer that Thom, once thought dead, returned to Olor from a secret quest that had taken ten years. Thom had faked his own death in the fight with Skii and traveled to the continent of Old Olor, where the power of the ancient empire had lain. He sought and found the Metal Sword, which gave him the same powers as Nemo, though Thom learned to use his metal powers much better than Nemo.

The good gods had a plan for Nemo. He became their champion and defeated Zzemsax'in'urd d'O'len, the champion of the God of Chaos. From this moment on Nemo was blessed and cursed. He would forever have the love of his gods (as long as he stayed on the moral path set for him), but he must forever go where he is needed most. The power of the Mark gave him a very long life, so he would be traveling for a long time indeed.

At first this was enigmatic to Nemo. How was he to determine who was of the most need? He need not worry, though, for the gods knew all. Once they determined that a people were in need, Nemo was transported to them immediately to solve the problem for himself. He must, however, obey the natural and secular laws of the land.

On the continent of Europa on the planet Earth, an empire was rising. The Romans conquered everything they saw and ruled the people with an iron fist. Their technology was great and their greed greater. The gods determined that the people they subjugated were not to be mistreated any more.

Nemo awoke in a pine forest along the Balkan peninsula. Magic did not exist on Earth, so he could control neither metal nor plants. He could, however, still commune with animals. Through them, he learned that the Roman Empire was not as evil as the gods had made it seem. The will of the gods was the greatest thing in Nemo's life, however, so he carried it out with a passion. He joined the Rising Tide, a group led by Gellius Telesinus, a Samnite whose vendetta for the Romans was even greater than Nemo's.

Nemo did not question the gods' will; the Romans must be stopped. He did, however, gain a respect for their ways and learned to speak their language. He determined that his mission need not mean that the Romans must be destroyed, they need merely be stopped from subjugating their conquered peoples. His mission was now simple: destroy the head and the body will follow. If he can topple the city of Rome, the empire will fall apart. With the help of Gellius and the Rising Tide, Nemo enlisted the help of the Goths. For the remaining story, you need merely read a history book. . .
