INTERVIEW WITH MELISSA LOPEZ - DARK SENTINEL

The Realm - Melissa, welcome to Romantic Realm of Shadows. So glad to have you join us.
Melissa Lopez - Hey~ Thanks so much for having me.
The Realm - Can you give us a little info on who Melissa Lopez is?
ML - I have many roles in my life that I work to keep balanced. One is that of a storyteller.
The Realm - I know you have several books published. I'd like to know which is your favorite and what hero/heroine is your favorite? And why?
ML - Actually I’m in agreement with all those other authors out there. Every single story, every series is special. Very special. But I have a thing about firsts. So all my ‘first’ stories stand out in my mind. Torc’s Salvation is Melany’s first release. As is Heart on His Sleeve Marissa’s first. Dark Sentinel is my first contracted story. Boomerang Love is my first release. So many firsts. First completed manuscript. First story to get a rejection. First story in an anthology. First story to get an agent’s attention…But all my stories are special for their own reasons. I love every single character and story that has come alive for me.
The Realm - Explain to us what Netherworld is, and give us a brief excerpt of Dark Sentinel.
ML - Netherworld is the ultimate of parallax worlds between good and evil.

Lash landed on the ground with a bone-jarring thud, bouncing until he slammed against an immovable object. Even if he could, he dared not move. What new form of torture had his keepers invented to use on him? Until that moment, he’d been able to ignore pain. It’d been centuries—no, eons—since he’d felt any emotions or sensations at all, except pain, so he had built up a resistance to the physical reaction. At this moment, the shock of it was a stark reality.
He moaned, fighting the agony. In his existence in Netherworld, he’d known every type of severe abuse fitting for his kind. But never had he felt such suffering. Every bone in his body must have shattered. Too much pain assailed him for them not to be.
He drew in another agonizing breath. Sleep. He willed sleep to claim him. He’d never escape the continual cruelties heaped on him, yet thankfully he’d heal in the slumber of nightmares.
“Hello. Hello. Can you hear me?” The whispered melody reached him from a great distance.
He attempted to growl. He knew this trick well. His keepers tortured the legions relentlessly with promise of concern, of care, only to rip it away.

The Realm – That sounds really good. Where and when can we buy Dark Sentinel? Will there be other Netherworld stories to follow?

Oh yeah! Dark Chance has already been contracted. And my editor has already Okayed three other follow-up story premises.
The Realm – That is great news. So tell us what influenced you to write this "second chance" type of story?
ML - Truth is, I just write what my muse tells me. But as a reader I've always loved those redeemable characters.
The Realm - Seems many author are choosing "Louisiana" as a back-drop. What made you chose it?
ML - I fell in love with the mystic atmosphere of Louisiana some years ago. It's such a fascinating state. There was no stopping my muse.

The Realm - I always ask advice for our writers. Can you share some writers tips or advice that you learned from your journey so for?
ML - There's so much to share with aspiring authors.
Here are a few of my tips.
1. It is important to know not everyone's journal to publication is the same.
2. Your will to succeed needs to be stronger then your fear of failure.
3. You need a tough skin. Rejection in its many aspects hurts.
4. Know who your real friends are now before you succeed.
5. The best thing you can do when it comes to promotion is write another good book.
6. Make personal career goals for yourself.
7. Research the markets. Know where you're going to fit.
