Shampooing cats and clipping their nails
Does anyone have any opinions about shampooing cats? I know a lot of people say you shouldnt because they clean themselves but I used an all natural oatmeal shampoo on one of my cats who had dandruff and after the initial fight he really seemed to enjoy the warm lather and he's been much shinier, softer and dandruff free ever since. Its not something Id want to take on on a regular basis but I'd like some opinions on it.
Also, can anyone give me tips on how ot get my cats to stay still so I can clip their toenails?

Re: Shampooing cats and clipping their nails
My cats are indoor only; I've never tried to shampoo them.
I do clip their nails though. I started when they were kittens. They are use to it now, and having had another cat for almost 18 years that I also clipped the nails on, I got good at doing it quickly, but painlessly, which helps too.

Re: Shampooing cats and clipping their nails
Mine are indoor too, I dont know why one of them got such bad dandruff this past summer but the shampoo did help. I guess I should have started clipping their nails when they were kittens but I didnt and now when I try my hands look like I got in a knife fight with a street gang which doesnt really look good for business :P I can usually only get 3 or 4 nails while theyre sleeping

Re: Shampooing cats and clipping their nails
socks is a big suckler, so i wait until he's distracted with suckling and do it as quickly as i can, one paw at a time. sometimes it takes awhile to get all of his paws but that's the best time i've found to do it.
