Unseen Wealth

There was once a wealthy Aztec chief who had a massive gold throne as a symbol of his power and authority. When he heard of the greed of the white explorers heading his way, he knew he had to hide it. With much effort on behalf of his subjects, he disguised his palace as a rudimentary hut, covered it with grass and hoisted the throne into a false ceiling.

When the explorers arrived, they were eager to get a good look at the chief and his state room with all its treasure, but they found him sitting on a straw mat with no goodies in sight.

They naturally asked him about the missing treasure, and he began to spin out a tale of destitution and woe. Suddenly the ceiling gave way, and the chief was crushed to death.

The moral of this story is that people who live in grass houses should never stow thrones.
