Forrester "cats"
Hi, check out this auction on ebay

Some time ago I bought the same family from Wendy and was very puzzled to have them arrive in a Forrester Dog box. I emailed Wendy to ask her if there had been a mistake, she very kindly explained to me that all the McCavity cats of that era were sold in Forrester Dog boxes - you learn something new every day  So I thought Id share this with any other "newbees" like myself who may right now be scratching their heads as they check out ebay.

These are actually pretty common (for a MIB Macavity). They sold the family the wrong box for almost a year.
I remember when it happened. . . everyone got all excited because we thought it was a sign that Flair was going to release the Forrestors in the UK, but they never did.
The boxes were made for a version of Forresters that were released in Japan. Its a factory mix up, so it makes that family pretty special.

Wendy, wasn't the Forresters released in UK for a short time as a limited release ? I do remember getting mine as a flair release from the Sylvanian Shop back around 2003.

Yikes, the prices are steep on that auction! I got my MIB Macavity cats for less than $20.00 USD from ebay.

They were mainly Japanese special, a family you could buy through the JP club (and maybe at the Market stores, I don't remember). The Sylvanian Shoppe in London did get some, as they often do get figures that are special in some way (field trip sets, UK club member figures, etc.) But I don't think they were ever officially released in the UK, even as a special promotion.

Hey, Im lost Are you talking about Forrester Dogs or the miss-boxed McCavity cats? I have a set of Tomy Forrester Dogs that was bought (not by me) in NZ in the 80's, Ill have to check the date but the SKU is 33300 (I think). If its cats I have no idea - as my original question to Wendy shows. Were the babies (cats) boxed correctly?

Sorry for the confusion. The JP promotional family (that was also available as SSK) were Flair version Forrestor dogs, from the early 2000s. Here is their picture: Flair Forrestor Dogs
The Tomy version was released in the UK late 1980s/early 1990s :Tomy Forrestor Dogs
Macavity cats were a normal release in the UK in the early 2000s. The family was released both in the wrong box (Forrestor box) and then they finally corrected it and they were in the right box. As far as I know, the babies were always in the right box, but I can't be 100% certain.
