The storm sounds like just another day here in North Carolina. I'm under a serve thunderstorm or tornado warnings at least once every couple of weeks this time of year. Yesterday was the last one.quote:
I second that statement for the State of Florida. At this time of year we get bad thunderstorms practically every afternoon. The sky grows dark, the wind whips, thunder claps and lightening strikes all around. Living surrounded by woods like we do...trees are always being hit around our property. Thankfully, the house has never been struck though. However, a tree did fall on our 6 foot chain length fence and kind of squashed it a bit. Usually when a tree is struck it loses large branches. The worst time was when we were dealing with the effects of a Cat 1 Hurricane and actually had trees falling in the woods around us. It scared me to death because I just knew one was going to end up on top of our house. We lucked out though and the house was undamaged. Unfortunately for us, it stays warm here for so long that our Hurricane Season actually lasts from June - October/November. The most active months for us are usually August/September. A couple of years ago though we actually were in a Hurricane Watch on Thanksgiving Day. That was definitely a first for us.

Re: Huge Summer Storm Hits Edmonton
Luckily, there was no damage to my house with the lightning strike. I think I was pretty lucky with the electronics too, as it only effected one room. I've heard stories of people's houses getting struck and it fried every single thing that's plugged in, including all of the appliances.
And like Julia, we get the hurricanes too (not as many as Florida, though). I'm too far inland to get the worst of them, thank goodness, but they still can cause damage here.
The worst disaster I've actually been through was the Loma Prieta earthquake in California back in 1989 (the one that happened during the World Series). It was a 7.1 quake, and I lived about 15 miles from the epicenter. Lots of damage in my area, but again, my family lucked out and our house was fine.
