Another US Collector!!
Howdy all!
My best memory was one Christmas morning, waking up to find a large, red-roofed doll house underneath the tree. I was about 5 years old and had to sleep on the couch right next to our presents - my own room was in the process of being renovated. The anticipation I felt then still wells up inside of me when I pull out my Sylvanians each Christmas and set up the new family for that year.
I still have all of my originals and am, what I like to call, a "classic" collector. I like the new Calico Critters Versions, but nothing is like the old Epoch/Tomy to me! I also branch out and have several Forest Families and Barenwald/Simba figures.
I'm a odd person who loves making new friends and if you ever met me, you would probibly never expect I am a collector! My other hobbies include cheezy B-horror movies, collecting hippomotamus, and playing (gasp) Dungeons & Dragons! But one thing that has been a constant has been the wonderful gift of Sylvanian Families from my mother and my realatives. These little figures helped me discover my creativity and imagination that has served me for all of my 25 years.

Re: Another US Collector!!
Welcome to the forums. I'm Ryusui, the admin.
I've never actually owned or bought a Sylvanian in my life; it was Maple Town I remembered from TV as a kid, though all I had from that series was one of those "Giant Coloring/Activity Books" that were everywhere back then. XD
It was years later that I learned the show was Japanese in origin and I started doing my research; I learned about Sylvanian Families at that time, but I assumed the franchise was long since dead. Imagine my surprise when someone gave me a link to a website that featured a Sylvanian Families video game.
So yeah, it was the Japan-only games that ended up making me a part of the community. I've made fan translations of the first for GBC (it's buggy, though, and it uses the literal translation of "Fairyland" instead of the official "Misty Forest") as well as the rhythm-action spinoff Sylvanian Melodies. I plan to do them all, eventually. :3
I ended up making these forums when Benjamin's old forum closed...I joined for the research and stayed for the camaraderie. ^_^ So it seemed like a shame just to let all that die.
Anyways, if you think it's odd to be interested in horror movies, hippopotamuses and D&D as well as Sylvanian Families, check out my own resume. XD I don't know why, but in my head the Sylvanian Families and Shin Megami Tensei series seem to share a special relationship. It was the intro for SMT3: Nocturne that inspired my attempt at rendering the opening of Sylvanian Families for GBC in poetry. All my custom apps for translating the game - Kagutsuchi, Burn My Dread, Hitoshura SF (just a custom version of the Atlas script inserter, really) - take their names from the MegaTen series. Heck, my current avatar is a spin on Persona 4's logo saying "Sylvanian Families" instead, and that's Aster Dandelion in my sig next to the lyrics to "Reach Out To The Truth", Persona 4's battle theme. (On other sites, it's been the lyrics to "Burn My Dread" from Persona 3, as well as a play off the intro to SMT3.) And the name "Watercrown Productions" itself? That's from Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 1 & 2, another pair of entries in the series. ^_^
...And on other sites, my avatar tends to be Homsar or the Drive-Thru Whale from Homestar Runner, or Rocky Rickaby from the webcomic Lackadaisy. All good stuff. :3
So anyways, sorry for the long-winded intro. Enjoy your stay.

Re: Another US Collector!!
LOL. Love me some Homestar!
I just find that I get funny looks from other people when I say: "...oh yeah, and I also collect these super-cute fuzzy dollhouse animals."
It's almost the same look I get when I tell them that I was a cheerleader back in the day.
Thanks for the welcome!

Re: Another US Collector!!
Hello and welcome to the forums! I am also a childhood collector and I resumed collecting SF/CC last year when I found them on the internet. It can be quite addicting!
