Wrap an [img] with [url] tags.
This is what the banner in my sig looks like:
[url=http://theryusui.googlepages.com][img]http://theryusui.googlepages.com/wcbannerb.png[/img][/url]
Just copy and paste this into your sig, but replace the URL with the URL of your choice and the IMG with the IMG of your choice. (Just a reminder, you can't link to an image on your hard drive.)

OK, really dumb question here ..... I can't figure out how to put a photo up onto the boards - if I try using 'insert image' it asks for a URL, is there anyway of uploading photos to share from my hard drive? It was quite easy to do on the old board, but I haven't figured it out here! I have been very impressed with everyone else's photos that they have put up on this board, I'm just not quite technically capable enough to figure out how to get some of my own photos up!

Unfortunately, Runboards doesn't have a file attachment feature. You'll need webspace.
Your ISP usually provides some kind of webspace with your service, or you could sign up somewhere for free webspace.
Googlepages gives you 100MB of free space, though its page creation system is a fair bit clunky. (You don't have to put up with it if all you need to do is upload pictures, though.)

Just discovered how to put photos on this site!
If you have a hotmail address you probably have a My Space which you can put photos of your collections on, or blog etc.
In your My space right click on a photo you want to put on the board and copy short cut.
Then you can paste it into your insert image URL.
