What is the karma indicator on the left?
Just curious. What it the karma indicator on the left (under a member's name and just above the avatar)?
Sorry, I'm such a noob. =P

Best I can tell, it's sort of a reputation indicator.
You can "applaud" or "smite" a user's posts with the links at the bottom-right; I would assume that "applaud" gives you positive karma while "smite" gives you negative.
It's an optional feature of the forums. I can actually remove it if people complain about it.

I think its cool too.  I have been on boards with this feature but I can't believe this, some of the people created new accounts so they could applaud themselves, what egomaniac n00bs

I know I need glasses now. I thought it said smile, not smite. Is there any way to change
or remove karma points? I was trying to leave deceitfulwings good karma. Instead, it came back a negative. Now, I know why. I should have hit applaud.

Well, since the karma system really wasn't doing anything, I decided to disable it. Now nobody's feelings are hurt. ^_^

Thank-you so much. I felt so bad when I realized what I had done. The poor thing just came home from the hospital with a new baby and definitely doesn't need to be smited. Like I said, I honestly thought it said smile.

Just came across this old post since the cookies have gone haywire and the main board shows all the subforums as having unread msg's even though the sub-forums show it correctly.
Anyway, about the karma feature.
I think its just as well turned off. I've seen it used on other forums and it essentially lead to big troubles. Probably never happen here since its a friendlier place but at least my paranoia can rest easy... LOL.
