"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church, which is, of course, quite a different thing." -Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
Placating terrorists, meeting with dictators, compassion for murderers... but no humanity for the unborn... incredible.

Re: Anglican bishops in secret Vatican summit They may be doomed. That does not make them irrelevant. What if they are convertible? Surely some of them must be.
You are right about the secular-minded people , but they are by default irrelevant because they think only about the present even with no enemies in sight .
This doesnt include Russia? They're becoming wealthy now because of oil prices.
Re: Anglican bishops in secret Vatican summit Russia is different - they are fighting on multiple fronts - providing incentives for children , supporting the Church , taking steps to limit abortion and so on . They will go all the way if they feel the nation is threatened - freedom was never an issue there compared to the state interest .
Re: Anglican bishops in secret Vatican summit For them their way of life comes first , and that includes the orthodox church . Even Stalin opened the churches and circled Moscow with an icon .
Re: Anglican bishops in secret Vatican summit I wouldnt be so quick to paint such a rosy picture.
The State and the Church are natural enemies. People can only serve one master. Right now, their interests coincide but in time that will change. It always does. The last time State and Church interests diverged, a lot of the Church ended up in Gulag.
Re: Anglican bishops in secret Vatican summit We are told to be wise . Last time I checked , Paul used the secular state to his advantage . Of course , the christian kingdom is not of this world
Re: Anglican bishops in secret Vatican summit I hope that some of the money from high oil prices is filtering down to the Russian masses and not just going to the rich.

It's very definitely creating a wealthy class, especially in and around Moscow where housing prices have become very high. Russia isnt a democracy and has no cultural tradition for capitalism so I doubt all that wealth is translating into anything more than making people who were already 'rich' under the old system even richer under the new one.
