SHJIHM :: Religious World News :: Another Protestant Denomination Falls ~ Runboard
"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church, which is, of course, quite a different thing." -Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
Placating terrorists, meeting with dictators, compassion for murderers... but no humanity for the unborn... incredible.
OOT
The change to gay clergy policy passed with the support of 68 percent of about 1,000 delegates at the ELCA's national assembly. It makes the group, with about 4.7 million members in the U.S., one of the largest U.S. Christian denominations yet to take a more gay-friendly stance.
Re: Another Protestant Denomination Falls Out of curiosity, a homosexual man (unbeknown) becomes a priest and takes a vow of celibacy. If he keeps that vow, what does that make him?

Re: Another Protestant Denomination Falls Unbeknown to whom? He is a priest regardless of whether he keeps his vow is the proper answer. What probability is there that he will be a holy priest if he is sexually active as a homosexual?
Re: Another Protestant Denomination Falls This particular Lutheran synod has okayed homosexuals in "committed relationships" (sexually active) to be clergy. A homosexual man can be celibate though and there are some that are. There are also some that are hiding their homosexuality behind their position as a priest and are not particularly celibate. Remember Bishop Weakland?
In any event, Rome has said that men with deep seated homosexual tendencies are not to be ordained.

Indeed, and there are many inherit problems with this. First and foremost is a complete re-write of Scripture.

Agreed.

Could not agree more. I have been trying to understand why PJP II looked the other way in regards to homosexuality in the priesthood. The only viable answer I can agree with is that he believed a man, regardless of sexual orientation, to remain celibate once they took their oath.
The flesh is quite weak.

Re: Another Protestant Denomination Falls PJPII seemed to look the other way over so many things it is tempting to want to blame him for all our troubles. So many bad bishops were appointed while Bernardin was pulling strings. I don't know what he was thinking but I want to believe he was doing the best that he could despite the realities of trying to govern an almost ungovernable Church.
