SHJIHM :: Religious Phenomenon :: Demonic Possession and Infestation ~ Runboard
"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church, which is, of course, quite a different thing." -Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
Placating terrorists, meeting with dictators, compassion for murderers... but no humanity for the unborn... incredible.

Re: Demonic Possession and Infestation i can't believe I am just now reading this thread! I find it all so very interesting, and terrifying.
quote:
Diabolic activity generally falls into one of four categories, he told me. The mildest forms are infestation (as in haunted houses) and obsession (when a person is harassed by the devil either by intense temptations or in a particular area of a person’s life). Oppression—an external attack by evil spirits on a person—is worse. “The spirit could cause discouragement or weariness,” said Father Jayachandra, “or it can put up external shows to frighten the person, such as shaking a person’s bed during his sleep at night.”
So what is the Churchs' opinion of "mediums" or other people who claim to have experiences with the paranormal? Like people who claim to be visited by particular spirits, and even give their names? Have you ever heard of/seen the TV program "Paranormal State"? Stuff like that.
quote:
Not sure then why he has chosen to torment me. For a sinner I be.
Saints were sinners, too, Tony. One thing I have always known is that the devil particularly wants those closest to God.
I can't say I have ever had such experiences. I have heard of them, and I know that there have been many stories, for example, in St. Mary's, Kansas, at the SSPX campus there. I think my stepsister even experienced some things while she was at school there.
I cannot imagine how these experiences you have had have affected you both. I know that if either of you are ever willing to share, I would be most interested to hear your stories.
Re: Demonic Possession and Infestation This is a very complex issue. By the way, a Haunting in CT is being remade into a feature film. The initial version was a tv-movie/documentary on one of the cable channels, possibly Discovery.
Re: Demonic Possession and Infestation I read something recently about a woman who thinks she is channeling Padre Pio. She is a school teacher and is encouraging her students into spiritism, apparently with results.
Stay away from the spiritual. When it was happening to me I only wanted it to stop.
Re: Demonic Possession and Infestation Ed and Lorraine Warren were ghost and demonic researchers for several decades and they were very devout Catholics. I understand that Ed died not too long ago. I met them in the 1970's when they gave a lecture, but I have not followed them through the years. They were involved in the famous Smurl family haunting that plagued a Catholic family in West Pittston, PA. This incident was made into a tv documentary film. Has anyone seen this move?
Re: Demonic Possession and Infestation Tony - I am most curious. What was their diagnosis of the problem in the house and were they able to "clear the house"?
Re: Demonic Possession and Infestation So then "hauntings" are obviously acknowledged by the Church, but are always associated with demonic forces? What about those who claim to have been visited by saints, or by people who tell them about hell? I am thinking about a book about hell that my sister has (can't think of the name off-hand, but I think it is simply be titled "Hell". It's a red book.) I haven't read the whole thing, but I read parts some time ago and some of it was stories of people who claimed to be visited by those that had died. It's published byTAN Books (so they're for Catholics).
Tony, Nord's sudden departure is curious to me as well. I don't understand these mysterious partings and why he cannot tell us his reasons.
