SHJIHM :: Revelations :: Are we still worthy of the Voice of God? ~ Runboard
"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church, which is, of course, quite a different thing." -Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
Placating terrorists, meeting with dictators, compassion for murderers... but no humanity for the unborn... incredible.
OOT
Are we still worthy of the Voice of God? Has anyone ever wondered about the voice of God? How he, possibly through Angels, spoke to man, guided humankind, telling them of his wishes?
Have you ever wondered why we no longer can speak to him as he spoke with Noah? As with Adam and Eve, or Moses?
No bushes of fire, no voice on high from the heavens... why do we no longer hear these things, no longer see them?
It just seems that God, at one time, was an active presence, and became the man behind the organization... why did he overtly show his presence so long ago, even with the miracles performed by Jesus, and now chooses to remain silent, save for the voice of the church?
… One need only look at the decay of the world to see why God may appear to be so absent.
However, we can look to the Church to see how God has been active with His children. Fatima, Guadalupe, Eucharistic miracles, Shroud of turin, The Divine Mercy....
There are many ways in which God still talks with us. How many of us can actually say we listen when we hear His voice?
--- "My Sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
Re: Are we still worthy of the Voice of God? And what if the voice of God was in your head, and you feared to heed it? What if he was telling you many things, and your soul was screaming out to him, what then if others of the world say nay to it?
And, too, the Church does show works of God, but Christ was focused on saving the sinners, bringing them to God, and showing them a life of faith... a road to happiness, through love and charity... what of them? Where is God in the face of the sinful that Christ cried for?
Perhaps the decay makes it seem like God is absent... but perhaps this continued absence is why it gets worse.
Re: Are we still worthy of the Voice of God? As always, AD, your one liner contributions do little to help in the discussion.
I am trying to speculate as to why we no longer have the first hand experience with God that we see in scripture. No blame is being placed, but maybe people are looking at the scriptures, seeing all that involvement, and are feeling betrayed. Did God have reason to stop acting directly, as he is said to have done? I would hope so, else, how can I have faith in Him?
Re: Are we still worthy of the Voice of God? SHJIHM,
I am trying to keep the flow going, but I keep mixing up terminology. When I am saying he has stopped speaking to us, I am talking about the spectacles spoken of in the Bible, where he is sending Angels, and Speaking from flaming bushes, and having his spirit in physical form on earth, performing miracles for the masses, feeding the multitudes with little bread and some few fishes.
And I would think, to make a point, one could try to express a little more... however, it doesn't seem to ever do me much good, so maybe he has the right idea.

Lauchlin, God may have ceased communicating to us in the manor He did as described for us in Scripture, but this hardly proves that He has stopped talking to us.
Many miracles can be found today that are of God.

That's AD...directly to the point, even if that point is lost on others

Stop beating yourself up. Your heart has always been in the right place.

Re: Are we still worthy of the Voice of God? Interesting question, Lauchlin.
The simplest answer is that we are not and never were worthy of the voice of God, but that His mercy and love for us is what allowed certain persons in history to experience Him directly. His miracles and the holiness and/or obedience of those who witnessed them lend immense credibility to His revelation to us.
You seem to me to be a good, sincere, Christian and you are right that God had good reason to stop so that (among other reasons) we can have faith in Him:
St. John 20:29
29 Jesus saith to him: Because thou hast seen me, Thomas, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and have believed.
Faith is extremely important but, IMHO, it still has to be grounded in something. Something real. Otherwise it makes a disgraceful transition into superstition. I personally know some people who have too much faith. They believe in tarot cards, astrology, magic water crystals, and just about any other 'spiritual' thing you can think of! How am I supposed to squash their faith in these false gods and THEN revive it and point them at Jesus? Its very, very difficult, Lauchlin. They've let their natural inclination to have faith - which I firmly believe is one of the things that makes us God's children - get out of control. The only answer I can come up with is to ask them to make their faith based on something real, something reasonable.
I'm not talking about Sola fide (a completely different subject) when I say this but, a religion based ONLY on faith seems to me to be chasing shadows. It isnt grounded in anything, and it can therefore become whatever suits it at the moment. Muslims have faith. Hindus have faith. Even atheists have faith - no matter how much they might deny it.
A while back, I read something on James Akins website where he says that in the Koran, the prophet Mohammed is asked on many, many ocassions why he does no miracles...and the question is dodged every time!
The mirales in Christianity - one of which is that Voice of God we are not worthy of - have been documented and recorded by reliable witnesses, i.e., they are part of the historical record. A religion that claims to be from God but has no miracles is an empty shell. It doesnt deserve any faith, because that faith will be based on nothing. That faith is not reasonable - its no different than believing in astrology.
As for AdMaj...
Remember that our Orthodox friends in the east have suffered a great deal throughout history. Their perpsective is colored by those bad experiences. However, that suffering makes them close to Jesus, so listen with an open mind. You and I in the west have been very fortunate, Lauchlin. We've never had to live under sharia (sp?)
Anyway, I hope my ramble isnt too rambled - whatever 'rambled' means.
Are we still worthy of the Voice of God? "AD's responses take some time to get used to, but he always has a point to make."
You are too kind my friend - these words - as we all know - are not our own after all .
" so maybe he has the right idea. "
Don't be sad - the Holy Ghost is influencing anyone with an open heart .
"We've never had to live under sharia "
Freedom is earned each day . But no persecution - be it communist , islamic or pagan can bring us down - because of a promise made long ago .I may be worried for the battles ahead , but I already know the course of this war - that ended actually long ago as well .
