SHJIHM :: Christian Pub :: Is Christianity compatible with multiculturalism ? ~ Runboard
"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church, which is, of course, quite a different thing." -Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
Placating terrorists, meeting with dictators, compassion for murderers... but no humanity for the unborn... incredible.

Is Christianity compatible with multiculturalism ? We know christianity can work with a society where the dominant culture is european-inspired ( from Latin America to South Korea ) . What about the rest ?
Re: Is Christianity compatible with multiculturalism ? For example , is christianity compatible with shinto , or the cult of the ancestots in the Far East ?
Re: Is Christianity compatible with multiculturalism ? Only to the extent that it transforms those cultures into Christian ones. I have always looked upon multi-culturalism as a Marxist tactic to undermine Christian culture, much the same as feminism.
Re: Is Christianity compatible with multiculturalism ? Ah, I see. Hasn't Christianity worked in the past transforming cultures into Christian Cultures? Are we not today still accused of using pagan symbols in our celebrations?

Re: Is Christianity compatible with multiculturalism ? Yeah. We are accused of both destroying indigenous cultures and of becoming pagan in the process.

No.
While Catholicism (including the Orthodox Churches) believes all religions contain some truth, they still dont have all of it. The truth's non-Christian religions have are proper starting points for showing the way to getting all of it through the Church.
A society has to choose what it wants to be. "Multi-cultural" is a cop-out, because by trying to be all things to all peoples, society ends up without a reason for its own existence. The nearest ideology (religious, usually) will then step in to fill the vacuum...and it probably wont be Christianity.
Re: Is Christianity compatible with multiculturalism ? HT reappeared on the IMDB boad doing the balancing act between cultures and religious beliefs. I pity him - an orthodox westerner compromising with a atheist korean wife - even Solomon cracked under that kind of pressure.
