SHJIHM :: Christian Pub :: United Atheist Front? ~ Runboard
"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church, which is, of course, quite a different thing." -Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
Placating terrorists, meeting with dictators, compassion for murderers... but no humanity for the unborn... incredible.
OOT
Re: United Atheist Front? My goodness, guys, that is really unfair.
Shall I bring up the fact that the Bible speaks of selling off your daughters as slaves, and keeping the young virgins of the vanquished foe as playthings?
People defining 'life' as just a bundle of cells doesn't really have much to do with science. The whole point of science is that it doesn't rely on faith, hence why the 'when life begins' is not a scientific one. It is just as pseudo scientific as ID.
I would agree, personally, that the idea of life starting at birth IS just a way for people to rationalize doing what they do. When a judgment is made, quite clearly I might add, with a selfish motive behind it, it is automatically unscientific, by definition.
I guess, when it comes down to it, people can use scientific data, twisted, to substantiate their moral decisions, but when it comes down to it, they are just using data to make themselves feel better.
Again, nothing to do with science.
As for ESCR, I am not sure where to stand on that... is it truly that much different than antibodies and blood donation? I mean, where does a person say that the harm outweighs the good, or vice versa?
Re: United Atheist Front? It seems to be one of those issues that has taken on a religious hue simply because most of those opposed to it do so because they respect Church teaching on when life begins. It seems to me that an atheist or agnostic could come to the same conclusion that ESCR is unethical but do not do so except only rarely. To be fair, many who call themselves Christians do support the practice.
Re: Is this what Science Proposes? If so, then to Hell with science!
quote:
A leading embryonic stem cell expert in Britain has called for organs from aborted babies to be used in transplants to increase the supply of organs available for donation, drawing criticism from pro-life and Christian groups who called the proposal “absolutely horrifying.”
I understand your revulsion... or half of me does. The other half wonders if it is better to not let the fetuses be destroyed in vain? If the mother is going to choose abortion anyways, perhaps it is best to put the organs to good use, the same as someone who is in a car accident?
But again, the idea truly does disturb me, as does abortion... I guess I am really torn on this kind of thing.
