SHJIHM :: Christian Pub :: This is a crime.... ~ Runboard
"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church, which is, of course, quite a different thing." -Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
Placating terrorists, meeting with dictators, compassion for murderers... but no humanity for the unborn... incredible.
OOT
Re: This is a crime.... Perez Hilton is hardly someone that ANYONE should be looking to for any kind of standpoint...
But yes, the girl did give the appropriate definition of 'religious' marriage, in the eyes of Christianity. Granted, the reference to no guy on guy action was old testament, and we don't stone people to death for lying, or cut of their hands for stealing :P
Re: This is a crime.... Religion does not define marriage and I get frustrated that people keep trying to force the definition into the religious sphere, and consequently make it a matter of opinion.
Marriage is a reality of human existence. We would not exist without it. It is so basic to who and what we are that it is absolutely fundamental.
Re: This is a crime.... I wrote this on another forum in a similar discussion.
quote:
My point is if you look backwards in time from where you are to our misty beginnings you will see nothing but married couples, men and women, whose unions resulted in you being here. It wasn't government that put you here. It was not a church that put you here. It is heterosexual marriage that did. This one thing is absolutely fundamental to human existence.
Re: This is a crime.... But religion DOES define marriage, Micheal. Yes, based on societal evolution, we have made it a societal necessity, but at the same time, it is not something we see in nature. In fact, communal societies work better in nature.
So what you are talking about, referencing procreation I am assuming, is more the physical. If we wanted to link marriage to that primal need, we would have to tell people who were infertile that they couldn't marry, or tell people getting married that having children is mandatory.
The only position for holding marriage as being for a 'family unit' is a religious one, plain and simple. Otherwise, we could easily sit back and say 'hey, gay people can adopt kids, and give children with no other options a solid home, and a safe place to grow up'.
No offense, but it seems like you are trying to remove the religion from this item simply so a single opinion of what is right or wrong can be made to apply to everyone through some fuzzy logic.
Re: This is a crime.... Lauchlin,
I am arguing from nature. You are just making stuff up about communal societies. Study ancient history. Study non-christian sociaties. Everywhere and everytime - marriage. No where and no time - 'gay marriage'.
