Was it Aristotle who said that man is a political animal? What usually has is people pick a political side and then they force everything else to fit into the paradigm that supports their political allegiances. So a Catholic Democrat will convince herself that she is really pro-life even though she supports candidates who do nothing but advance the cause of abortion. A Catholic Republican will convince himself that Just War teaching does not really apply because God wants us to defeat the Islamo-fascists who are his enemy too. The tough position is to treat the Gospels with complete seriousness and realize that they don't serve political parties.
