Placating terrorists, meeting with dictators, compassion for murderers... but no humanity for the unborn... incredible.

Such travesty "In the last four decades since the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, many American nuns stopped wearing religious habits, left convents to live independently and went into new lines of work: academia and other professions, social and political advocacy and grass-roots organizations that serve the poor or promote spirituality. A few nuns have also been active in organizations that advocate changes in the church like ordaining women and married men as priests."
"Given this backdrop, Sister Schneiders, the professor in Berkeley, urged her fellow sisters to use restraint and caution with the visitation, saying the investigators should be treated as “uninvited guests who should be received in the parlor, not given the run of the house.” She wrote this in a private e-mail message to a few friends, but it became public and was widely circulated."
Re: Such travesty Nuns that "stopped wearing religious habits, left convents to live independently and went into new lines of work" are automatically anathema around here. Why are such travesties not excommunicated in the US ?

Re: Such travesty Because it was the seventies, VCII, and all that. Everyone was looking for new models of faith for the modern world. The nuns left their habits in their cloisters and went out into the world and lost their faith.
Re: Such travesty The visitation is pretty monumental in that it is the first time the Curia has sent someone to investigate. They had depended on reports before that always portrayed things as going well. They are finally responding. Meanwhile, new, faithful orders are replacing the dying ones.
