SHJIHM :: Passion of The Christ :: The Hobbit. ~ Runboard
"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church, which is, of course, quite a different thing." -Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
Placating terrorists, meeting with dictators, compassion for murderers... but no humanity for the unborn... incredible.

The Hobbit. Apparently Peter Jackson is out as the director of the new The Hobbit movie. After how far he went off track with his LOTR trilogy I had doubts about him. But I wonder if anyone else even has a hope of pulling it off.
I read Tolkiens works while I was in high school. The Hobbit and then the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I never really thought about it much afterwards until the movies came out. I thought Fellowship was great but that Jackson took the next two movies in directions that were not faithful to the books.
The Hobbit. Michael, I never read the entire ring trilogy. I could not get into it. The films captured me in ways the book never could.
On a side note, I think the success of the ring trilogy on film elevated jackson to a status that he does not deserve. I did enjoy the ring trilogy, but best picture of the year?!?
And Kong to me really fell flat. At 3 hours long, who the heck needs to have this film any longer with the directors cut?!?

Re: The Hobbit. Tony,
I thought Return of the King was the weakest of the three and actually contained some moments of pretty bad movie making. Oscar material, definitely not. But when is the last time a best picture Oscar has been given to a deserving movie?
King Kong was overlong and pretentious. Jacksons obviously was more full of himself than a desire to tell a good story.
That being said, I expect that The Hobbit will be badly botched.
Re: The Hobbit. Apparently the movie is back on and Jackson will be involved. Newline is desperate for a hit after The Golden Compass tanked at the box office. There may be one Hobbit movie and one other prequel or the Hobbit may be made as two movies. It is uncertain from what I have read.
