SHJIHM :: Passion of The Christ :: Becket ~ Runboard
"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church, which is, of course, quite a different thing." -Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
Placating terrorists, meeting with dictators, compassion for murderers... but no humanity for the unborn... incredible.
OOT
Becket Has anyone heard of this movie being re-released in theaters? Its the story of Thomas a Becket and King Henry II and both the acting and the story are excellent. See it if you can.
Apparently, the movie has been fully restored and a DVD will be out soon.
Re: Becket Looks like the re-release is going to happen!
I found this on its IMDB message board from a guy named Chuckju:
"Restored Print playing in 30 cities Jan. 26, 2007; Per USA Today, Jan. 18, 2007, section A, front page article on O'Toole: 'A restored version will play 30 cities, starting with New York on Jan. 26.'
I would imagine a DVD will not be many months behind."
Thanks for the tip- I think I saw bits of this movie in an English history class once. The same prof also showed bits of Monty Python and the Holy Grail as well as The Lion in Winter.

Highly recommended.
Can't say I have heard of this film. Will have to look it up.

Re: Becket Its an old movie, Tony, about 1964. Peter O'Toole plays Henry II and Richard Burton is Thomas Becket.
King Henry appoints his drinking and womanizing buddy, Thomas Becket, to be Archbishop of Canterbury thinking he'll continue to support the King's policies from within the Church. When Thomas gets the job, he takes it seriously, and the tension begins. The ordination scene when Thomas becomes a Catholic bishop is breathtaking.
The original print of the film is in such bad condition that it just isnt on TV at all anymore. I saw it on PBS 25 years ago.
Re: Becket I watched the DVD of this movie last night and I'm kicking my self for not catching it on a big screen when it was re-released a few months ago.
At 2+ hours its a lot of movie to watch, but all the fine acting, great dialog, and serious sub-plot about the Honor of God and His Church are there in all their glory. (I dare say that is NOT a sub-plot, but is actually the main theme of the movie.)
