SHJIHM :: Passion of The Christ :: The Golden Compass ~ Runboard
"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church, which is, of course, quite a different thing." -Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
Placating terrorists, meeting with dictators, compassion for murderers... but no humanity for the unborn... incredible.

Anyway, that little literary interpretation aside, the Catholic League is being stupid. I'm a devout Catholic, and not a liberal one at that, but I still think these books were great and have high hopes for the film"
Opinions about the movie and the "catholics" who will like it ?
Re: The Golden Compass A general comment on the view of some Catholics when it comes to movies - why are stories such a bad thing? Why is it so horrible to want to read such things, and to create fictional stories that are not biblical...?
Re: The Golden Compass I believe that you have used Scientology as an example before... that is not the story that was dangerous - that was not accepted as false, it was encouraged as having a basis of truth.
I understand your point, but that is tantamount to saying that every Bible in the world should be burned, along with every Catholic Church, based on the fact that a few priests have done nasty things to little boys before...
The Golden Compass "I have not checked but what is this film about?"
Bashing the RCC known as "Magisterium" who is worshiping an archangel instead of God , heaven is a place of misery and so on . Of course , all is revealed in the future books - like Dumbledore turning gay or something .
The Golden Compass Well, without knowing more about the film, I don;t see how the film is portraying itself as fact while being cloaked as fiction as the Da Vinci code was. As angry as I am with JKR for her ridiculous announcement that DD is gay, (something NEVER revealed or even hinted at in the books) and although my perception of him has been altered, the books are still fantasy. And I agree with Benedict that fantasy can be dangerous if not properly explained. There is nothing wrong with a child fantasizing about dragons, and magic, and knights of the round table. It is up to the parents to make sure that fantasy is properly spoken about and explained.
