Why dynamic colours?why not do the following...

[Player List]
John
Andy
Stewart
Borris
Newton

[colour list as perceived by player 1]

Player 1. red
Player 2. green
Player 3. blue
Player 4. yellow
Player 5. purple

[colour list as perceived by player 2]

Player 1. purple
Player 2. red
Player 3. green
Player 4. blue
Player 5. yellow

[colour list as perceived by player 3]

Player 1. yellow
Player 2. purple
Player 3. red
Player 4. green
Player 5. blue

etc.

unless you assign colours to a specific starting position, I don't see any problems ._.

Hell, you could make player colours choosable by each player, to match there preference instead of storing the colours server side so for example: Player 1 can choose what colour he perceives each player as, Player 2 can choose what colour he perceives each player as, etc.

I like the idea of choosing the colors, besides I like red anyway. XD

franpa, I think you're misunderstanding the issue.

What you describe has nothing to do with dynamic re-coloring. The idea behind dynamic re-coloring is that the game only stores the gray images on disk and creates the colored images on the fly as they are needed. That is, the red image isn't ever created until a red player shows up.

This technology can be used to support player X always having color Y in game Z no matter what just as well as it supports the coloring scheme you described.

beat2k is going to help investigate dynamically coloring Images in Sivlerlight. Some possible routes that come to mind are WriteableBitmap (new in Silverlight 3) and Pixel Shaders. I haven't had time to thoroughly research either of these topics yet.

BTW - Beat2k and I have been testing some multiplayer games in the latest Development Build. There have been a few bugs which I have been quick to correct, but overall we've had some good games with smooth results!

I have some friends in Microsoft who are familiar with Silverlight. I could ask them about dynamic recoloring
