Nostalgia attack!!
So I opened up Winwar for the first time in years today, and as soon as I heard the music, a huge wave of nostalgia came over me. Nostalgia makes me sad, espcecially when its over something that once was, but is not and probably won't be.
I miss all the Winwar players. Ahh... memories, never to be again.

I can still get lost in a game of WinWar II v3.0
Being France on Free For All mode is the best. . you'll get an extra few turns with France's resources because Germany will usually attack Italy instead of France, but let France and Indochina go, consolidate power in North Africa and Ivory Coast, and if I"m lucky Libya too. . and send my navy to South Africa and conquer the whole continent plus Panama and Mexico. This gives me just enough resources I need to be able to take over the rest of Africa plus Middle East, then I start my troop buildup in Panama, until I have a huge force, move them into Mexico and on the next turn take the Western USA, and a few turns later I'm able to take Eastern USA too. . fron there I build a respectable navy to bombard Japan with, bombers for cleanup duty, and then the troops with my navy evenually can walk right into Japan unchallenged. Then I leave Asia alone for the time being and go for the kill, moving an army up from Africa to eventually take Italy while my navy does some nice bombarding. . from then on out it's just a waiting game until I'm able to take Germany, France, England, and the rest, and then roll across Russia (and Canada) for the kill.

I don't know about anyone else, but I find that while the easiest game in FFA is USA, the most enjoyable is Italy. Because you're totally screwed every which way, so you have to fight like heck just to survive. Makes the slow buildup that much more worthwhile.

I agree with Draik. Italy is screwed in FFA. Without Germany to back it up it, and very few colonies abroad, Italy gets pretty much raped...
I love playing Italy in Winwar 4.0 FFA. It's much more complex and has many more different ways of winning...
But at least in 4.0, for FFA, Japan is a pretty strong player for me. But maybe that's just because Japan's always a good player for me.. =)
