Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a starter home. Choose dental insurance, leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose your future. But why would anyone want to do a thing like that?

--------------------------------------------
I had heard a lot about this movie and I'd even proceeded to read a couple of pages off the book before I saw the movie. But nothing I'd heard about prepared me for what I was to witness. The movie is a fantastic depiction of drug addiction and the depths to which one might sink when afflicted by an addiction such as this.
Some scenes in the movie might be pretty disturbing, but it is certainly worth sitting through. The end might not be as interesting as one might expect, but the whole movie is an experience one shouldn't miss out on. Perhaps one of Ewan McGregor's best performances.
The other actors put in stellar performances that make this a definite must see. Renton's monologue on Scottish patriotism is something one should certainly hear.
--------------------------------------------
I've heard ALOT about this movie-- and besides the fact that it was a movie based on drug addiction, the fact Ewan was in this movie was the MAIN thing that drew me to watch it.
There have been very few movies LIKE THIS, that I actually liked... and I can honestly say, AFTER watching it, it has most definitely become one of my favorites. With The Basketball Diaries coming in a REAL close second.
Ewan pulled off the role perfectly. Ewen Bremner was amazing as well. The characters were successful in pulling you in and making you feel what they felt, and for those that have experienced it first hand, THIS is exactly how the life of an addict is-- desperation, betrayl, fear, contempt, lack of control, lust and wanting nothing more than to break free of the chains and become the complete OPPOSITE of what you are.

I don't feel the sickness yet, but it's in the post. That's for sure. I'm in the junkie limbo at the moment. Too ill to sleep. Too tired to stay awake, but the sickness is on its way. Sweat, chills, nausea. Pain and craving. A need like nothing else I've ever known will soon take hold of me. It's on its way. <<< Awesome quote, and ironically reminded me of The Basketball Diaries.
What are your thoughts on this movie? Favorite scene? Favorite Quote?

I just downloaded it off Bear Share and, actually... I'm watching it right now, for the 3rd time this week.
I also downloaded my favorite, Moulin Rouge. Hmmmm.... now let's see if I can find the others.

I love this movie! I've seen it so many times and I read the book. After I read the book I read the sequel: Porno. It's really good.
I'm not sure about my favorite quotes. There's so many. I love the whole "Choose Life." thing in the begining. I also like " For all the good they've done me I might as well have stuck 'em up my arse!"

I've only seen the movie, I haven't read the novel OR it's sequel. Though I have to say that the quotes you say were your favorite, are my exact favorites as well.
"Choose life. But why would I want to do a thing like that?"
Gotta love it.
Christy & Donna... if neither of you STILL haven't seen this movie, you REALLY need to rent and watch it! After all... Ewan doesn't say this is HIS favorite performance for no apparent reason. It's really amazing.
