Re: Has no-one got a good word to say....
The deal was that he always would train with us, whether or not he went out on loan, Ross insisted on that.
You have however missed the point, there is a strong ground swell of opinion growing , that we should use him, in the team.

Yes I do understand that, but the fans don't pick the team do they? I must say I probably agree with Bob, I don't think Ross is quite ready to start every week so he may as well go somewhere where he can.

Re: Has no-one got a good word to say....
MOOR5 - I apologise to Keith and Bob for any inaccuracies in this story but I will say it how it happened.
Keith had booked a seat on the Supporters Minibus to go to Gainsborough on Saturday. However, he read in the Sports Argus on Saturday that Ross had joined Studley on loan. As such, Keith turned up at Damson Park to pay the £10 for his bus seat and said that he wasnt going to the Gainsborough game but would instead be going to watch Loughborough play Studley and he could watch Ross play. This stumped us because a few of us had actually seen Ross board the players coach. Keith phoned Bob to ask him if Ross was on the bus and would he be playing or had he gone to Studley to play.
All the above I know to be true.
From what I then understand, Bob refused to confirm if Ross would be playing as he didnt know if he was speaking to a Moors fan or someone from Gainsborough looking for team information (which I can understand). Apparently Keith said to Ross that he wanted to know if Ross was at Studley because if he was, then Keith was going to watch them play to which Bob is supposed to have asked Keith "Are you a Solihull Moors fan or a Ross Dempster fan?".
I am sure if any of this is incorrect then an amended version will apeear here later.

Re: Has no-one got a good word to say....
Oh right. From what was being posted I thought it was a major argument or something.
I think it's actually a good idea to be registering our fringe players for other teams, giving them a game every week if they're not in the 16 for us and helping out smaller local sides.
I don't want to get too caught up in the debate about whether Ross should be considered a fringe player or not because I haven't seen enough of him to judge, but I do think he's a good prospect and it would be wise to keep him sweet with the odd appearance.

yep pretty much it, I have only heresay also, but it sounds like Keiths comments, but to question a fans loyalty, in not following the team to a distant away match is somewhat, well OTT ?

I dont think Bob was questioning someone's support because they were not going to a distant away game - think its more to do with the fact that Keith was always going to go to Gainsborough but then opted out to watch elsewhere.

Re: Has no-one got a good word to say....
Clive-I am not concerned with who could score the chances we have converted ,only the numerous chances ,the players on the pitch have failed to convert. As a Goal Keeper from the Peter Shilton era when good keepers dominated the area, what is your opinion of todays shotstoppers and do you think we need another keeper to press Craney for his place. He has no opposition for his place , so he could have a few bad games and his place is not in jepody.

Re: Has no-one got a good word to say....
Mmmm, goalkeepers. I try not to be too critical of today's keepers, however, any keeper that doesn't dominate his area is a poor keeper in my opinion, irrespective of how good a shot stopper he is. If a keeper has to flatten his defenders to get to the ball, then he should do it. There's nothing that inspires defenders' confidence more than to know that the keeper will go through a brick wall to get to the ball.
However, there are many differences; the ball is lighter and moves more in the air than the old caseball, which could weigh as much as 10 pounds (4.5kg) when soaking wet, footwear is lighter too, making putting spin on the ball, a craft that only the Brazilians used to be able to achieve, common. So, a spinning ball, moving in the air is harder to catch, especially when as a product of its lightness its trajectory can change dramatically and that lightness doesn't help it embed itself into the keeper's oversized gloves easily either, inviting him to punch or paw it away rather than catch it! Keepers also utilise saving with their feet more than they used to, probably to better effect than in the past.
A technique which seems to be rare these days is the ability to pull the ball into the body by catching it on the area of the arms between the wrists and the elbows and gathering it in - probably as a result of the ball's lightness and the likelihood of it bouncing out again. Did you see the Milan keeper's faux pas the other night when he dropped the ball? If he'd automatically pulled it into his body that mistake might not have happened but he tried to catch it with arms outstretched in front of him and ended up dropping it at the feet of the Madrid player!
Finally, I do think competition for the keeper's jersey is a good thing, not only to push the incumbent but if a keeper gets injured it's better to have one that can slot in automatically rather than have to import a stranger that doesn't know the players around him, I do wonder though, how you manage to maintain match sharpness of the keeper not playing regularly.
