AFC TELFORD

RoJ---Didn't see you last night, I was concerned that all the talk on the Redditch thread about the team from Witton & the team from Newton Heath had made you ill, hope this was not the case. When I went to take my season ticket seat,it & the seats around it had been taken by Telfords grey army, who are mostly older than me,very aggressive & abusive to the officals & the opposition players.I and a friend had to sit in the Press Box with Radio Shropshire, who made it sound that exciting, I wondered if I was at the same game as them.I also had to be on my best behaviour, because we were surrounded by squad players , fringe management & the Boss's Son,so I didn't mention the lack of timely tactical substitutions.Thought it best not to with all that physical power close by.Anyway if you did miss the match,it was full of endevour, not much quality apart from the goal.Thought we deserved a draw for efford alone & also their wage bill being probably 3 times or more than ours.

I agree, a draw would have been fair (1-1 because I thought we should of had a pen). Can't deny that their goal was quality though.

Re: AFC TELFORD

Apart from the result it was a good night for me as I won the 50/50. Even better was the fact that, as I was about to buy my ticket off Statto, who had already ripped the strip off ready to give me, a Telford supporter barged in front of me and said " I'm having that one ". I wished I could have seen his face when the result was announced!. As for the match I thought the whole Moors back five were excellent but as usual there was not much creativity or goal threat. They probably just about deserved the win. The referee certainly could not be called a homer as we did not get one 50/50 decision. The linesman on the stand side also missed a couple of corners.

I thought Telford were nothing to write home about and we should have had at least one pen. Frustrating as it is, the ref not giving a pen because he didn't see it is one thing, but to indicate that the defender got the ball when he hacked Junior down was but one of many diabolically bizarre unjust decisions. I thought we matched them throughout and, thanks to Dean the photographer showing me the evidence, their goal should have been disallowed as Craney was being held by a Telford player when they scored. Sour grapes? You betcha!

Clive thanks for clearing that up,I thought Craney & Theo were complaining that it wasn't a corner before the goal was scored. From where I was it looked a stonewall penalty.

Re: AFC TELFORD

Bit of theatre for me and Mrs RoJ, who is a costume drama fan, so Pride and Prejudice at the Rep was booked without me checking the fixtures list.
Mr Darcy was largely ineffectual in the first half allowing lesser players too much room but came into his own in the second half. His partner Lizzie, done well. There was lots of meaningless dancing around in midfield which seemed to be for nobodies benefit but looked fairly pretty without any real cutting edge. Mrs Bennett provided lots of good passing lines for those around her. Have to say respect for Mr Bennett in his sweeper roll. Wickham came up with some dirty tackles late on but was book, and ended up getting a transfer to Newcastle. As usual, the man in black, Mr Collins was a laughing stock. In general the younger Benetts lacked maturity and caused problems.
Must get a diary organised.

Re: AFC TELFORD

Sounds like a boring no score draw RoJ.Unlike the comment quoted by Ray Houghton on the Bob Faulkner thread about Entertainment, if you want entertainment you go to the Theatre & not a football match.I couldn't agree less. The only time I go to the theatre is when my good lady wife tells me I am going. All that Opera,Ballet & Drama is not my cup of tea ( But don't tell the Wife ) Anyhow isn't Ray Houghton the chap that scored that goal for the Rep.of Ireland in a World Cup match in 1990 (qualifier I think, not sure I can remember the 50s better than the 90s)What I do remember about that goal is the owner of a greyhound at Hall Green named his dog :Houghtons Goal: I don't think the dog reached top class at Hall Green unlike the dog currently running & winning top class at Nottingham called :Ross Rocket: named after that famous winning goal at Harrogate.....Tin hat back on.

Is this the Ray Houghton from the dark side of Birmingham?
My favourite dogs at Hall Green were Ezzaferrari which usually ran in handicaps as the scratch dog (so appropriately a red jacket) and was just an enormous dog; and a one off win bet at a giant 12/1, and that was on the Tote, on a dog called Wattenlathe purely because I had only recently gone to that village in The Lakes: drank very well that night. Haven't been for many years, thinking it is easier just to post money to the bookies.

Goodness me: I have just been on the blue board,I wouldn't like to meet some of them lot down a dark alley at night.I think few of them have been on the Jeremy Kyle show. All those insults & personal attacks, thats not right.I have only done it once ,I was completely out of order & I would like to apologize, although JDs style as a striker will never be my cup of tea, I should not have made it personal,he trys very hard & is probably a nice bloke. Reggie from the blue board should bare that in mind & join the white board. Its kind of like the TV Channel Dave full of witty banter.Reggie thought the McPike sub.was a tactical one.I don't think Macca thought it was tactical as he limped off,his face grimaced with pain & foot throbbing. What was equally worrying was seeing one of our top fans Trotsky limping around after the game, like he had been tackled by one of those nasty Telford defenders & then Statto suggesting the best cure for it,was a nice long trip to Workington on the mini-bus,how cruel is that.Anyhow if Macca is not fit for the Blyth Spartans game, howz about (I sound like Jimmy Saville now) starting Dempster & Beswick up front, using a passing game through the midfield.......Full armour on now.
