Re: 2009/10 Rumour mill
Speaking to Chris Hooper & Radley Veale at meadowbrook 5 a side, both having a season away from football, Hoops playing rugby & Rads having a rest! shame to lose 2 quality players from local football.
Sounds like Dartmouth have lost quite a few from their 1st team?

Re: 2009/10 Rumour mill
Another rumour i just heard at training and hope it isn't true is...
Mortonhampstead on the verge of merging with South Zeal! Also a number of their Bovey based players joining Kingsteignton reserves, Not sure if they will pull out of SDL and join D&E yet.

Re: 2009/10 Rumour mill
Yeah mate he used to play for us years ago in div 1 but he doesn't want to come back, he used to be very quick but has had a couple leg breaks, still good finisher and quicker than most though.

Re: 2009/10 Rumour mill
Being the nearest to either club, can I try to clarify the situation?
No question of a merger. South Zeal's pitch is having a lot of work done this year and they are unable to play or train on it. For the foreseeable future, they are hiring the facilities at the KING GEORGE V PLAYING FIELDS, Moretonhampstead as Moreton now only have one team. I don't see any practical reason for a merger given 1) the distance between the clubs 2) two sets of committees so far apart 3) the two league complication 4) it would be difficult to join either league now deadlines are well past 5) co-ordinating two teams so far apart etc, etc. I know Moreton have had changes behind the scenes and think they are still looking for a manager (Ted?) so I don't think they'd be wanting a merger right now! Nor do I see some of the Zeal players wishing to trek into Moreton for too long - many of them played for me at youth level so I know them.
Chagford are training at Moreton on Tuesdays as our pitches are out-of-bounds through cricket. We have yet to see a Moreton player in the three weeks we've been there. Nor is there a question of a merger between us! Chagford & Zeal play a friendly at Moreton on 12th August, just to complicate matters!! I've also heard of players moving to (an)other club(s) and assume they are not Moreton residents. My personal feeling is that they should stay and support the club they are signed for, whilst it's in this transitional phase. Freedom of choice.
More importantly, we hope they remain in a position to play the match below - it would be a shame to see it fall by the wayside:-
THE ANNUAL STEVEN HILL MEMORIAL MATCH - MORETONHAMPSTEAD v CHAGFORD. SUNDAY 16TH AUGUST (3pm) - in honour of a lad that played for both clubs and to raise funds for local charities.
Yes, I know it's Charity Shield day but we arranged ours before Ant arranged his - and we're not in the Shield match! I hope to make both!

Normally I'd be very interested John but sadly no car at the moment.
I hate being without a car!
