Bovey Tracey AFC
Bovey Tracey AFC is one of the oldest established local football clubs in the area. Founded in 1906, the club plays all matches in its original strip colours of green and red, at the Recreation Ground, owned by the Town Council.
In 1978 the club purchased the land at Mill Marsh Park and developed the playing surface by introducing drainage systems. The club is hoping to develop this area further and last year provided temporary changing and toilet facilities at this site. the aim is to build permanent facilities and we are always looking for funding and sponsorship too help achieve our goal!
The club is affiliated to the Devon County FA and has always played in the South Devon League, which consists of over 100 senior football teams playing in 7 Divisions. BTAFC have been fielding first and reserve teams in the South Devon League since its formation.
The club's greatest success was winning the Herald Cup (South Devon's version of the FA Cup) in 1961, and we have appeared in the final on 4 occasions.
The club has also a very thriving Youth and Junior section, with 14 teams competing in age groups from 15 years to 7 years old in the South Devon Pioneer League. Coaching for the older children, 13 years and upwards takes place at Ashburton on the Football Foundation playing surface at South Dartmoor School. The younger age groups from 12 years to under 7's train every Saturday morning at Mill Marsh Park in Bovey Tracey at 10am, at present the club has 170 children training on the Saturday morning.
In 2006 BTAFC achieved recognition from the FA and obtained the Football Association Standard Charter Mark Accreditation & Development Club Award, which ensures that the club complies and adopts FA guidelines in respect of its conducts and dealings with football.
BTAFC is one of only a few clubs within the South Devon League that has its own clubhouse which is situated at the Recreation Ground in Bovey Tracey which is adjacent to the Swimming Pool and Cricket Ground.
